feat(experiments): make chat-diff the default approval path (L2, #1375) - #1384
Makes the chat-diff approval path (the PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTION experiment) the default approval flow: writes are approved in chat and saved directly, without opening/refocusing the diff editor. The diff-editor path remains available — toggling the experiment off restores the old behavior (same storage key, so existing saved values are preserved).
All five write tools (WriteToFile, Edit, EditFile, SearchReplace, ApplyPatch) plus ApplyDiff already consume the experiment through experiments.isEnabled(state?.experiments ?? {}, ...), so the default flip applies automatically; no production call-site changes were needed.
Tests:
experiments.spec.ts / experiments-preventFocusDisruption.spec.ts: default assertions flipped (config map, experimentDefault, and the no-stored-value resolution).
editTool.spec.ts, editFileTool.spec.ts, searchReplaceTool.spec.ts, and writeToFileTool.spec.ts: "focus disruption default" blocks — with no stored experiment value the tool saves via saveDirectly and never calls open/saveChanges; with a stored false it still uses the diff-editor path (per CodeRabbit: cover both experiment states in every tool suite).
Tool-spec base mocks (editTool, editFileTool, searchReplaceTool, writeToFileTool) pin preventFocusDisruption: false explicitly so the legacy-path tests keep exercising the legacy path deterministically; the writeToFileTool mock also gained the saveDirectly stub.
DiffViewProvider.spec.ts: the openFile=false case now asserts the document is loaded in memory only at the exact URI (workspace.openTextDocument called with vscode.Uri.file(...), window.showTextDocument not) — the focus-not-stolen behavior (per CodeRabbit).
Notes
Behavior change: new users (no stored experiment value) get the chat-diff approval path by default; the active editor is not refocused. Users who previously saved the experiment keep their saved value.
No setting rename, no new settings, no storage migration.
Tests
pnpm --dir src exec vitest run over the 7 touched suites: 181 passed (5 skipped) — each write-tool suite covers all three experiment states (unset experiments: {}, stored true, stored false), and the in-memory document assertion pins the exact URI.
Full src unit suite: no new failures versus baseline (remaining local failures are pre-existing environment issues in a fresh worktree — tree-sitter native bindings and the known Windows symlink EPERM in rules.spec.ts).
ESLint clean on all touched files; suppression counts unchanged; check-types clean.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Chat-diff is now the default approval path for file changes.
File changes no longer disrupt the editor’s focus by default.
The previous diff-editor workflow remains available when focus-disruption prevention is disabled.
Tests
Updated coverage verifies both the new default behavior and the legacy workflow.
Added checks confirming files can be loaded without opening or focusing the editor.

Review-gate re-trigger (2026-08-30): empty commit d038774 (no code change) re-runs CI and CodeRabbit current-head review under the org new PR review gate; the code head remains c0ef476.
Rollout note
This flips the default for PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTION to enabled. Because the settings form persists the whole experiments map on Save (SettingsView → updateSettings → webviewMessageHandler merges over experimentDefault), an install that has ever saved the settings form has preventFocusDisruption stored at its old default (false), which experiments.isEnabled treats as an explicit choice: those installs keep the diff-editor approval path. The chat-diff flow becomes the default for installs whose persisted map has no value for that key.
The stored false is indistinguishable from a deliberate opt-out, so this PR does not migrate it; the toggle remains available for both directions. Persisting only explicit experiment overrides (so future default flips reach existing installs) is tracked in #2157.
…Code-Org#1375)
Flips the PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTION experiment default from false to true so the chat-diff approval path (approve in chat, save directly, no diff-editor focus) is the default. The diff-editor path remains available by toggling the experiment off; the storage key is unchanged so saved values are preserved. Production call sites already route through experiments.isEnabled(... ?? {}), so the flip applies automatically. Test-only changes pin the legacy path explicitly where base mocks relied on the old default.
Approved file edits now use chat-diff by default and can be saved without opening the diff editor.
The diff-editor approval workflow remains available by turning off the focus-disruption setting.
Bug Fixes
Settings saves now include only experiment values changed from their pending or current values.
Experiment changes remain tracked across consecutive saves while earlier updates are pending.
Pending experiment changes are cleared after settings are imported or discarded, or when the API configuration or mode changes.
The PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTION experiment is enabled by default. Tool tests cover direct-save routing and the diff-editor opt-out. SettingsView sends only changed experiment values and tracks pending host confirmations.

Explanation
The title states the main change: chat-diff becomes the default approval path by flipping the PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTION experiment default to enabled. Explanation
The description follows the repository template. It links the tracking issue, explains the chat-diff default change and how to restore the diff-editor path, lists the changed files and tests, reports test runs, and includes a rollout note about stored false values. The template's Closes line is replaced by a tracking issue reference, and the 'Related GitHub Issue' heading, Test Procedure heading, checklist, and Get in Touch section are not filled in as the template asks. The description also contains a review-gate re-trigger note and bot-generated comment markers that do not belong in a description.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
No changed path was found that meets the security failure conditions. The new default selects direct saving, but the write tools still check access and approval before saving. The settings change sends only edited experiment values.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
No changed lifecycle path introduces a concrete resource leak or duplicate work. The settings changes add state tracking but no listeners or timers. The default change routes writes through the existing saveDirectly path, whose diagnostic delays also exist in the legacy save path.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
The changed experiment save path can lose an edit after a partial failure. SettingsView.tsx:490-500,591-598 uses the submitted value as the retry baseline before the host confirms it. If a time-format write fails before the experiment write, the retry omits the experiment and can report success without storing it. The host writes settings in order (webviewMessageHandler.ts:746-751,776-777,877-892). Overlapping experiment saves also remain unprotected. Experiment-only saves do not wait for a result, and independent handlers can reach the experiment write out of order (SettingsView.tsx:480-485,602; ClineProvider.ts:2005-2017). A later toggle can therefore be overwritten by an earlier save.
Resolution
Acknowledge experiment writes and retain failed edits for retry. Serialize overlapping experiment updates so earlier saves cannot overwrite later ones. Add regression coverage for a partial failure and out-of-order saves.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
Two regression gaps remain. - The new default routes rejected ApplyPatch add and update operations through chat-diff. The rejection tests in applyPatchTool.experiments.spec.ts:213-261 do not verify provider reset. reset() clears edit state and listeners. The prior settings confirmation race is now covered by SettingsView.experimentRetirement.spec.tsx:187-208. - An unrelated save before host confirmation deletes the pending experiment baseline (SettingsView.tsx:591-597). A subsequent toggle back to the stale host value can then be omitted from the next save (:490-501). The test at SettingsView.experimentRetirement.spec.tsx:121-136 stops before that follow-up toggle.
Resolution
Add reset assertions to all four ApplyPatch rejection tests, or verify equivalent cleanup behavior. Preserve unconfirmed experiment baselines across unrelated saves. Add a test that saves an experiment, saves an unrelated change before confirmation, then toggles the experiment back and verifies that the next save submits it.

Fixed in 165bff4 — added a 'focus disruption default' describe block to each of the three suites (editFileTool, searchReplaceTool, writeToFileTool; editTool already had it). Each case uses experiments: {} (no stored value) and asserts saveDirectly is called while open/saveChanges are not; the explicit preventFocusDisruption: false fixtures are retained for opt-out coverage. writeToFileTool's mock also gained the missing saveDirectly stub. 7/7 suites green: 178 passed | 5 skipped.
Fixed in 165bff4 — the assertion now pins the exact URI: expect(vscode.workspace.openTextDocument).toHaveBeenCalledWith(vscode.Uri.file(${'mockCwd}/test.ts))

Reviewing files that changed from the base of the PR and between a3c6f86 and 165bff4.
Fixed in c0ef476 — added an explicit enabled-state case to each of the three suites (editFileTool, searchReplaceTool, writeToFileTool): with experiments: { preventFocusDisruption: true } stored, saveDirectly is called and open/saveChanges are not. The unset (experiments: {}) cases are retained to pin the default, and the explicit false fixtures cover the opt-out.

Current step: Address automated review findings and push fixes.
After fixes are pushed and required CI passes, automated review restarts.
Review-state labels are managed by this workflow; do not edit them manually. community-approved is managed the same way — do not add or remove it manually. It signals a fresh community code approval for the current head as an advisory priority only; maintainer review is still required.
Note: CodeRabbit is an incremental review system and does not re-review already reviewed commits. This command is applicable only when automatic reviews are paused.
Lint follow-up: the update-file direct-save test now asserts pushToolResult received the success message and handleError was not called (the destructured mocks must be used). applyPatchTool.experiments 8 passed; eslint 0.
main at the merge moment, read from ls-remote of upstream refs/heads/main:
73931fe ("chore(deps): update dependency
zustand to v5.0.16 (Zoo-Code-Org#2275)"). merge-base with this branch: 5cc5a37, which is
older than the branch of the previous refresh, so this merge carries a larger
slice of main: 866 paths, of which 32 are paths main deleted and the
merge removes.
Conflict: one file, webview-ui/src/components/settings/SettingsView.tsx, with
two regions inside handleSubmit because both sides edited the same two places.
Region 1 (top of handleSubmit). Main added, ahead of the updateSettings post:
`const saveId = displayChanged ? nextSaveRequestId() : undefined` and a guarded
block that records `sentState.current = cachedState` and calls
`setPendingSaveId(saveId)`. This branch added its experiments-diff block at the
same spot: it walks `changedExperiments.current`, compares each value against
the last submitted value (falling back to the live state/default) and collects
only real differences into `experimentChanges`. Resolution keeps both, main's
saveId block first and then the branch's experiments block, each with its own
closing brace: the single `}` that followed the conflict marker had been
matching the closer of both sides' open blocks, so the resolution writes two.
Region 2 (tail of handleSubmit). The branch added the loop that records what
was submitted into `submittedExperiments.current` until the extension state
confirms it. Main changed the following statement from a bare
`setChangeDetected(false)` into a guarded one with the comment that a time or
date edit clears the flag when the host reports the save and a failed save
leaves the edits in place to retry: `if (!saveId) setChangeDetected(false)`.
Resolution keeps the branch's loop and takes main's guarded clear, dropping the
branch's unguarded call: main modified that line deliberately, and an
unguarded clear would settle a display save locally before the host has
answered. The branch never touched that line, so nothing of its own is lost.
The rehearsal was done with --no-commit --no-ff, the conflicted file was read
from all three stages (base, branch, main) before the merge was aborted, and
the real merge then resolved as above.
Survivor arithmetic over the 242 spec paths either parent touched, on the
additive definition (a title is owed only where a parent changed it against the
merge base): this branch adds 19 titles, main adds 675, and all 694 are present
in the merged tree - 0 added titles dropped. 38 base titles are absent because
main deleted those tests and this branch never touched them, and 3 more are
absent because this branch deleted them and main did not; those are the two
parents' own deletions, applied, not merge damage.
Gates, all run by hand on the merged tree before this commit:
- pnpm install --frozen-lockfile: exit 0. The merged lockfile again outran the
worktree's installed copies - ai 7.0.148 installed against 7.0.162 declared,
katex 0.18.2 against ^0.19.0 - and the install brought both to declared
(7.0.162, 0.19.1) with pnpm-lock.yaml unmodified. It was run once before the
merge as well so this commit's own pre-commit hook had a runtime.
- pnpm --dir src run check-types: exit 0. pnpm --dir webview-ui run check-types:
exit 0. Both are package scripts; the conflict was in webview-ui, so the
webview-ui typecheck is part of the gate here.
- pnpm --dir src run lint: exit 0 in 32 s. pnpm --dir webview-ui run lint:
exit 0 in 9 s. Package scripts, not per-file invocations.
- Vitest: `pnpm --dir webview-ui run test components/settings --run` exit 0,
60 files / 783 tests - the lane containing the hand-resolved component,
including main's display-save specs. `pnpm --dir src run test
integrations/editor --run` exit 0, 2 files / 80 tests, for the spec both
parents edited (auto-merged, not hand-resolved). Those are the only suites
run on this box; the rest of the merged test tree was not executed locally,
so nothing here claims full-suite green.
- prettier 3.9.10 --check over the 793 merged paths that are parseable and still
present: 8 batches, all exit 0, no files differing. 32 parseable paths in the
merge set no longer exist because main deleted them, and 41 more have no
prettier parser (png screenshots and .gitignore); those 73 are reported as not
checked rather than as passing.
- src/eslint-suppressions.json in the merged tree is byte-identical to main's
(sha256 ef86e518fb79): 265 files / 2870 suppressed counts, against this
branch's 338 / 3766. The branch never touched that file, so the fall to main's
numbers is main's own cleanup arriving with the merge, not something the merge
invented; no file's count in the merged tree is above the higher of the two
parents, and no suppression was added.
Hooks: .husky/_ in this worktree carries husky's two-line wrapper for both
pre-commit and pre-push (the workspace install regenerated them, not a git-lfs
stub), and the push that follows this commit will show whether root check-types
actually ran. No --no-verify and no amend.
Head 41bcddb9 merges upstream main 73931fe8be (read from ls-remote refs/heads/main at the merge moment) into this branch; the merge base is 5cc5a379, which is older than in the previous refresh, so this merge carries a wide slice of main: 866 paths, 32 of them paths main deleted. One merge commit, branch commits untouched, and the two labels that flagged this PR as unmergeable cleared with it.
The one conflicted file, and how it was resolved.webview-ui/src/components/settings/SettingsView.tsx, two regions, both inside handleSubmit, because both sides edited the same two places. The file was read from all three stages before the merge was committed.
Region 1, at the top of handleSubmit: main added const saveId = displayChanged ? nextSaveRequestId() : undefined plus a guarded block recording sentState.current = cachedState and calling setPendingSaveId(saveId); this PR added its experiments-diff block at the same spot - it walks changedExperiments.current, compares each value against the last submitted value (falling back to the live state/default) and keeps only real differences in experimentChanges. The resolution keeps both, main's saveId block first and then this PR's experiments block, each with its own closing brace: the single } after the conflict marker had been serving as the closer for both sides' open blocks, so the resolution writes two. Both blocks still sit ahead of the updateSettings post that carries requestId: saveId and experimentChanges, and both keep the cachedState binding the settings view requires.
Region 2, at the tail: this PR added the loop that records what was submitted into submittedExperiments.current until the extension state confirms it; main changed the statement that follows from a bare setChangeDetected(false) into if (!saveId) setChangeDetected(false), with main's comment that a time or date edit clears the flag when the host reports the save and a failed save leaves the edits in place to retry. The resolution keeps this PR's loop and takes main's guarded clear, dropping the unguarded call: main modified that line deliberately, and an unguarded clear would settle a display save locally before the host had answered. This PR never touched that line, so nothing of its own is lost.
Dependencies. Same lag as the sibling refresh: ai installed at 7.0.148 against a declared 7.0.162, katex at 0.18.2 against a declared ^0.19.0; pnpm install --frozen-lockfile brought both to declared (7.0.162, 0.19.1) with pnpm-lock.yaml unmodified, run once before the merge (so the merge commit's pre-commit hook had a runtime) and once after it, before any gate.
What was actually run locally on the merged tree.pnpm --dir src run check-types exit 0 and pnpm --dir webview-ui run check-types exit 0 (the conflict was in webview-ui, so its typecheck is part of the gate here). pnpm --dir src run lint exit 0 in 32 s and pnpm --dir webview-ui run lint exit 0 in 9 s. Vitest: pnpm --dir webview-ui run test components/settings --run exit 0, 60 files / 783 tests - the lane containing the hand-resolved component, including main's display-save specs; pnpm --dir src run test integrations/editor --run exit 0, 2 files / 80 tests, for the spec both parents edited (auto-merged, not hand-resolved). Those two lanes are all that was executed on this box; the rest of the merged test tree was not run locally, so this is compile-and-lint gating plus two lanes, not full-suite green. prettier 3.9.10 --check over the 793 merged paths that have a parser and still exist on disk: 8 batches, all exit 0, nothing differing; 32 parseable paths in the merge set no longer exist because main deleted them and 41 more have no prettier parser (screenshots and .gitignore), so those 73 are reported as not checked rather than as passing.
Suppressions. The merged src/eslint-suppressions.json is byte-identical to main's (sha256 ef86e518fb79...): 265 files / 2870 suppressed counts, against this branch's 338 / 3766. This branch never touched that file, so the fall to main's numbers is main's own cleanup arriving with the merge rather than something the merge invented; no file's count in the merged tree exceeds the higher of the two parents, and no suppression was added.
Survivor arithmetic over the tests. Across the 242 spec paths either parent touched, on the additive rule (a title is owed only where a parent changed it against the merge base): this branch adds 19 titles and main adds 675, and all 694 are present in the merged tree - zero added titles dropped. 38 base titles are absent because main deleted those tests and this branch never touched them, and 3 more are absent because this branch deleted them and main did not. Both are the parents' own removals being applied, not merge damage.
Hooks. The pre-push hook ran during this push and printed root check-types output ending Tasks: 11 successful, 11 total and Changeset files: 10 (turbo served 11 of 11 from cache, since the same gate had just been run by hand before the commit). No --no-verify, no amend.
Add or strengthen a focused test that fails under the mutation. If the mutant is equivalent, request maintainer approval for the narrowest mutator-specific exclusion and explain why it cannot change behavior:

const result = condition ? value : fallback

- Prefer local `webview-ui` tests for React/webview behavior. If a change is about component rendering, local state, hooks, form dirty-state, validation, or prop wiring inside the webview, add or update Vitest coverage under `webview-ui/src/**/__tests__` instead of reaching for `apps/vscode-e2e`.

[warning] 353-353: This side-effecting call runs inside a state updater, which React may invoke more than once. Move it outside the setter after computing the next state.

An experiment stayed in SettingsView's change set after the host confirmed its value, so a
later unrelated Save compared this view's cached copy against a newer live value and posted
the older copy back over it. A confirmed experiment now leaves the change set and the
confirmed value takes its place in the cache. Experiments that are still being edited, or
submitted and not yet confirmed, keep their cached value, so a newer unsaved edit is never
dropped, and a value the host confirms after a profile change is adopted rather than
written back.
Adds SettingsView.experimentRetirement.spec.tsx: four tests. Two of them fail at 41bcddb
(the stale re-post, and the reverted checkbox after a profile change) and pass here; the
other two pin the pending-intent and profile-reset contracts. They also kill the
CallExpression mutant on changedExperiments.current.clear() at SettingsView.tsx:264 that the
mutation advisory reported as surviving.
Answers the review rows at SettingsView.tsx:455 and SettingsView.tsx:268. This push also
re-runs this branch's required contexts: the workflow cannot be re-run from the API
(403 "Must have admin rights to Repository.").
The ubuntu platform-unit-test leg for this head (job 128576671104) reported
188 test files and 2,498 tests all passed with no FAIL line in the log, and
exited 1 on a single unhandled rejection:
EnvironmentTeardownError: [vitest-worker]: Closing rpc while "onUserConsoleLog" was pending
raised in the @roo-code/vscode-webview:test:coverage target; the windows leg
128576670981 was cancelled downstream of it by the matrix fail-fast. The same
leg was green at 41bcddb on the same runner, and the failing target's own
command (vitest run --coverage over webview-ui) exits 0 here on the pinned
Node 22.23.4 with the same 188 files / 2,498 tests.
This commit changes no files. It exists because POST
/actions/runs/<id>/rerun-failed-jobs answers 403 "Must have admin rights to
Repository" for us, so a push is the only re-trigger available. The commit
points at the same tree as 395dc1e, so the gates already run on that tree -
vitest src/components/settings 61 files / 787 tests, whole-webview coverage 188
files / 2,498 tests, eslint --max-warnings=0 on both changed files, tsc
--noEmit, all on pinned Node 22.23.4 and repeated on box Node 25.9.0 - carry
over unchanged. No gate is re-run for this push beyond the repository's own
pre-push check-types, which runs on the pinned Node 22.23.4 on PATH.

An intervening save can lose an experiment edit
If the user saves preventFocusDisruption: false, saves another setting before host confirmation, then saves preventFocusDisruption: true, the intervening save deletes the pending false baseline. The final save compares true with stale live state and omits it. If the first save succeeds, the stored value can remain false despite the final save.

Add `reset()` assertions to all four ApplyPatch rejection tests. Add a settings
test that saves an experiment, changes it again, then delivers the first host
confirmation before the second save. Assert that the second edit remains visible
and is submitted. Correct the confirmation handling if the test fails.
- Persistence Integrity:
Acknowledge experiment persistence and retain failed edits for retry. Compare
retries against confirmed values, and serialize overlapping experiment updates
so earlier saves cannot overwrite later ones.

[warning] 32-32: This component misses React Compiler's automatic memoization & re-renders more than it should: Cannot reassign variables declared outside of the component/hook. Rewrite the flagged code so the compiler can optimize it.
Variable hostApi is declared outside of the component/hook. Reassigning this value during render is a form of side effect, which can cause unpredictable behavior depending on when the component happens to re-render. If this variable is used in rendering, use useState instead. Otherwise, consider updating it in an effect. …l holds it
The confirmation effect gated retirement on one comparison: the live value against the
value this view submitted. The cache copy was never consulted, so a toggle made after the
save - which re-adds the id to the change set and writes the newer value - was overwritten
when the host answer for the earlier value arrived, and its change-set entry was deleted in
the same step. Since the save payload is built by iterating the change set, that next save
then posted nothing for the experiment and the user's newer intent was lost.
Retire the session inside the state updater, which is the only place the authoritative
cached copy is readable: when the cache still equals the submitted value the session ends
and the confirmed live value stands; when it does not, the submitted baseline is retired
while the change-set entry survives, so the next save posts the newer value instead of the
host's older answer. Both ref deletes are idempotent, so React invoking the updater twice
retires the same entries it would retire once - that is what makes the decision safe to
take inside the updater rather than outside it.
Test: keeps a toggle made after the save when the host confirms the earlier value. Against
the previous head it fails with "expected true to be false" on the checkbox; with this fix
the file is 5 tests green on pinned Node 22.23.4 and on box Node 25.9.0, webview-ui
src/components/settings is 61 files / 788 tests, and the package's own leg command
(vitest run --coverage) is 188 files / 2,499 tests with no failing file on 22.23.4.

Summary
L2 of the file-write safety series (plan: easonLiangWorldedtech/Zoo-Code#33), part of epic #1375.
Changes
src/shared/experiments.ts:PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTIONdefaultfalse→true(toggle kept as escape hatch).WriteToFile,Edit,EditFile,SearchReplace,ApplyPatch) plusApplyDiffalready consume the experiment throughexperiments.isEnabled(state?.experiments ?? {}, ...), so the default flip applies automatically; no production call-site changes were needed.experiments.spec.ts/experiments-preventFocusDisruption.spec.ts: default assertions flipped (config map, experimentDefault, and the no-stored-value resolution).editTool.spec.ts,editFileTool.spec.ts,searchReplaceTool.spec.ts, andwriteToFileTool.spec.ts: "focus disruption default" blocks — with no stored experiment value the tool saves viasaveDirectlyand never callsopen/saveChanges; with a storedfalseit still uses the diff-editor path (per CodeRabbit: cover both experiment states in every tool suite).editTool, editFileTool, searchReplaceTool, writeToFileTool) pinpreventFocusDisruption: falseexplicitly so the legacy-path tests keep exercising the legacy path deterministically; thewriteToFileToolmock also gained thesaveDirectlystub.DiffViewProvider.spec.ts: theopenFile=falsecase now asserts the document is loaded in memory only at the exact URI (workspace.openTextDocumentcalled withvscode.Uri.file(...),window.showTextDocumentnot) — the focus-not-stolen behavior (per CodeRabbit).Notes

This is an auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai -->pnpm --dir src exec vitest runover the 7 touched suites: 181 passed (5 skipped) — each write-tool suite covers all three experiment states (unsetexperiments: {}, storedtrue, storedfalse), and the in-memory document assertion pins the exact URI.srcunit suite: no new failures versus baseline (remaining local failures are pre-existing environment issues in a fresh worktree — tree-sitter native bindings and the known Windows symlink EPERM inrules.spec.ts).Summary by CodeRabbit
- New Features
- Chat-diff is now the default approval path for file changes.
- File changes no longer disrupt the editor’s focus by default.
- The previous diff-editor workflow remains available when focus-disruption prevention is disabled.
- Tests
- Updated coverage verifies both the new default behavior and the legacy workflow.
- Added checks confirming files can be loaded without opening or focusing the editor.
end of auto-generated comment: release notes by coderabbit.ai -->Review-gate re-trigger (2026-08-30): empty commit d038774 (no code change) re-runs CI and CodeRabbit current-head review under the org new PR review gate; the code head remains c0ef476.
Rollout note
This flips the default for
PREVENT_FOCUS_DISRUPTIONto enabled. Because the settings form persists the wholeexperimentsmap on Save (SettingsView→updateSettings→webviewMessageHandlermerges overexperimentDefault), an install that has ever saved the settings form haspreventFocusDisruptionstored at its old default (false), whichexperiments.isEnabledtreats as an explicit choice: those installs keep the diff-editor approval path. The chat-diff flow becomes the default for installs whose persisted map has no value for that key.The stored
falseis indistinguishable from a deliberate opt-out, so this PR does not migrate it; the toggle remains available for both directions. Persisting only explicit experiment overrides (so future default flips reach existing installs) is tracked in #2157.
