This PR has been reverted due to causing issues under proton. Something in one of the native python modules (under the DLLs dir) causes crashes when loaded. Removing them from the python path makes everything load normally - but since we want functionality from it, it's not an acceptable solution. No amount of playing with different proton versions or env vars has seen results, so reverting.
