I was having problems parsing any of the text-format outputs (format, ascii, etc). There's no record separator at all, so it's really hard to stream the output to something for further processing.
I desire a json outputter.
... I don't think you could actually merge this PR (since I didn't follow the code format at all, among other things). But I think this would be a good place for comments before I clean up the branch for a possible merge later.
