Bug? Navbar dropdown obscured by content wrappers #704

Description

@virginiascarlett

Hello,

I am part of a team that is using your hugo theme. (Juanita Gomez and Jarrod Millman are on this team, among others.) Thanks for making this theme, and for making it available!

I noticed that on our website, the navbar dropdown menus were being obscured by the breadcrumb nav bar. It looks like on your website https://theme.scientific-python.org, this has perhaps been addressed by making the breadcrumb nav bar less wide.

I created a stop-gap fix for our own purposes by dropping some CSS into our root layout/partials/head.html file:

<!-- Bugfix: ensure navbar dropdown is always on top of all other content -->
<style>
  .navbar {
    position: relative;
    z-index: 1000 !important;
  }
  .navbar-dropdown {
    z-index: 2000 !important;
  }
</style>

I just thought I would let you know about it. I am attaching photos of the before and after, as well as the offending element on each of our sites. Thanks!

    Hi @virginiascarlett! Thank you for the bug report! I think this should be the same bug as #641 and #664, which were fixed in #680, and we subsequently released the fix in the v0.22 release.

    From https://github.com/UC-OSPO-Network/ucospo.net/tree/main/themes, it appears you are using https://github.com/scientific-python/scientific-python-hugo-theme/commits/827e00a1ec9b059cd21f8f5885e7c71ae561478a, which is an old version.

    Could you please update your theme submodule in UC-OSPO-Network/ucospo.net#215 to the latest release and check if that resolves the issue for you?

    Ah, I did not know you had already fixed this. My apologies. I will ask our site admin about updating the theme. If you would like to know what happens, feel free to leave this issue open and I will report back. If you don't care, feel free to close this issue. :)

    No worries! I'm happy to leave this issue open for now to hear from you if you still face problems after updating the theme. I'll later close it as a duplicate of the other issues afterwards. :)

    Hi, it seems that our site admin started doing this, but then some of the Hugo shortcode was not working properly, so she didn't continue troubleshooting as it wasn't a high priority. UC-OSPO-Network/ucospo.net#222

    I think this effort has been shelved for now, since we are probably going to migrate from Hugo to Jupyter book at some point. Thanks anyway!

    Thanks for letting me know! I had done migrations for many websites in Scientific Python land that were using the theme not too long ago, recognising the nature of the changes in the recent themes. They were a bit AI-assisted, and I had designed perl commands for the same to expedite the process and escape its tedium. If you need help in the interim later on, I'll gladly come down(stream) and assist with a few PRs here and there.
