I believe that the reason for the breakage is because of some shared library changes in the base image that made it incompatible with existing binary packages. And the package builders took a long time to catch up. That kind of breakage is to be expected for FreeBSD *-CURRENT . https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=288817
