A font for medievalists (and others), Elstob is a variable font, especially suitable for web use, but it also comes in a desktop version. In order to keep file sizes manageable, the font is limited to about 1100 characters; but these include all Unicode characters commonly used by scholars of European medieval languages. The font covers all modern European languages using the Latin script, and also Runic and the International Phonetic Alphabet. OpenType features include numerous stylistic variants, automatic conversion to Norse and Insular letter-shapes, automatic transliteration into runic script, automatic substitution of long s for round s, and alternative number-forms. The package contains a document containing specimens and instructions for using the OpenType features. In version 1.015, some outlines have been refined or corrected, and upright brackets (accessible via cv80) have been added in the italic face.
