I’m working on fixing various lingering branding issues.
It started with finding a name for Enhancing Bioinformatics Ressearch through LLMS that is more succinct and distinct. I came up with BAIO. BAIO is the “Baio (바이오) AI Output”, a recursive acronym that incorporates the Korean work for “bio”. @BioHPC signed off on the name. Then I had inconsistent handling of acronyms (Image Recognition Integration System (IRIS), BAIO - Baio (바이오) AI Output, DADS: A Database of Arithmetical Dynamic Systems), and that would not do.
That has led to creating a style guide for all product names, and then trying to apply the style guied to all of projects… or at least part of it.
Material Donation Mutual Assist has a name that's too long, and does not even adequately explain the purpose. I came up with a more succinct and distinct name for it.
SLU Open Project is a name that has a very high level of risk from a trademark perspective. There are multiple overlapping and competing products and services with same/similar names. This represents a significant legal risk (we could be sued!) The name is also not especially succinct or distinct. It also has the potential to be a widely adopted product, but prepending SLU to the name might limit adoption by key target markets (other universities). So I came up with a new name.
Shelter Volunteers is named inconsistently. The title for the project page is “Homeless Shelter Volunteer Scheduling Application”, much longer. The repo and everything else points to “Shelter Volunteers”, so that is the name. Then I thought, neither of these explains the core purpose of responding to dangerous weather or other urgent emergencies. So, I came up with something that, hopefully, does that in a succinct way:
Shelter Volunteers Rapid Response
Miscelaneous updates related to applying the style/branding guide are also included. Note that I have intentionally not updated some things so the new Tech Leads will have to make updates, and take ownership of their products/projects.
