For adding an interactive HTML BOM to certification documents, it was mandatory to add a drawing number. Thus, I decided to give the tool an extra command line argument to use from a KiCAD jobfile. It can be added multiple times to add further information (drawing number, drawn by, revised by and so on) to the header of the HTML BOM.

I think this kind of thing is better done with customization
https://github.com/openscopeproject/InteractiveHtmlBom/wiki/Customization

There are examples on how to inject logos and other stuff.

Everyone will have different requirements for formatting and stuff so a simple insert of a few lines is not very flexible.

In my scenario I invoke InteractiveHtmlBom from a KiCAD jobfile. This way, I can pass variables (like the drawing number, my name and so on) to the BOM. Is there a way of doing this using the customization feature?

With a bit of scripting everything is possible. You could write a wrapper that will inject whatever you want into the custom javascript that ibom will then pick up.

But a cleaner way could be to have ibom pass through a custom_metadata field that you can specify in command line and it will appear in pcbdata unchanged. Your javascript can then do whatever you want with it. This way you write your javascript or header template once, pass your data through a json string in command line. I would merge such a change.

The cleaner way sounds good to me. I will try to implement this soon-ish and update the PR.

I implemented on another branch and will create a new PR -> Close.
