Summary

Adds built-in support for the Vietnam National Coordinate Reference System (VN-2000 / QĐ 973/2001/QĐ-TTg) across map projections, raster CRS parsing, and the Coordinate System UI dialog.

Key Additions & Changes

  1. rustgis-map (crates/map/src/projection.rs):

    • Added standard presets:
      • vn2000: Transverse Mercator 3-degree strip (VN-2000 / TM-3 (Vietnam)), defaulting to central meridian $105^\circ\text{ E}$ with 7-parameter Helmert transformation parameters (+towgs84=-191.90441429,-39.30318279,-111.45032835,0.00928836,-0.01975479,0.00427372,0.252906278).
      • vn2000Utm48: UTM Zone 48N (EPSG:3405, $105^\circ\text{ E}$, 6° strip).
      • vn2000Utm49: UTM Zone 49N (EPSG:3406, $111^\circ\text{ E}$, 6° strip).
    • Added provincial central meridian aliases for standard 3-degree zones:
      • hanoi, cantho ($105.0^\circ$)
      • tphcm, saigon, haiphong ($105.75^\circ$)
      • hue ($107.0^\circ$)
      • danang ($107.75^\circ$)
      • nhatrang ($108.25^\circ$)
      • gialai, daklak ($108.5^\circ$)
    • Configured LON_0 tuning parameter for vn2000.
  2. rustgis-data (crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs):

    • Extended Crs::parse to parse raw +proj= strings as custom CRS instances.
    • Added case-insensitive name resolution for VN-2000, VN2000, and VIETNAM.
  3. rustgis-ui-egui (crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs):

    • Added quick provincial central meridian selection buttons (Hà Nội, TP.HCM, Đà Nẵng, Hải Phòng, Cần Thơ, Nha Trang, Gia Lai) in the Coordinate System dialog when vn2000 is selected.
    • Added descriptions for vn2000, vn2000Utm48, and vn2000Utm49.
    • Updated search hint to guide users ("3035, vn2000, hanoi").

Validation & Testing

  • Unit Tests:
    • cargo test -p rustgis-map -- projection::tests::vn2000_vietnam_projections passed (validates forward/inverse roundtripping within $< 10^{-6}$ precision and alias resolution).
    • cargo test -p rustgis-data -- raster::crs::tests::codes_crs_definitions_lacks passed.
    • cargo test -p rustgis-ui-egui -- dialogs::tests::vn2000_in_coordinate_system_dialog passed.
  • CLI & Live Verification: Tested rustgis-cli setting map.setProjection with vn2000, hanoi, tphcm, danang, vn2000Utm48, and vn2000Utm49.
  • Quality Gates:
    • cargo clippy -p rustgis-map -p rustgis-data -p rustgis-ui-egui --all-targets -- -D warnings: 0 warnings.
    • cargo fmt --check: Clean.
    • cargo xtask layers: layers: ok.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added VN-2000 support for TM-3 and UTM zones 48N and 49N.
    • Choose a VN-2000 TM-3 central meridian from province presets, or search using Vietnamese province names and aliases, with or without diacritics.
    • The coordinate-system dialog includes descriptions and EPSG links for supported VN-2000 presets.
    • Custom PROJ definitions up to 1,024 characters are accepted when valid; file, grid, and path-like parameters are rejected.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Bare VN-2000 names now report ambiguity instead of resolving as a coordinate-system code.

Code review

I read the diff and the surrounding code in projection.rs, crs.rs and dialogs.rs. I did not build the code or run any tests.

Bugs

  • Gia Lai meridian (low–medium confidence): crates/map/src/projection.rs:195 maps gialai/pleiku to lon_0=108.5. I believe Gia Lai's VN-2000 central meridian is 108.25, and 108.5 is Đắk Lắk's. Please check every province value against the official table.
  • Single meridian in Crs::parse (medium): VN-2000, VN2000 and VIETNAM always resolve to lon_0=105. There is no way to pick another province's meridian, so data in other zones lands hundreds of km off with no warning.

Security / robustness

  • Unvalidated +proj input (low–medium): Crs::parse now accepts any string starting with +proj as a custom CRS. Please confirm Crs::custom validates the string and doesn't panic on hostile input. AGENTS.md treats parameter input as hostile and requires a regression test for the hostile-params case.
  • Inconsistent PROJ-string handling (medium): map::projection::lookup still rejects PROJ strings ("PROJ strings aren't taken"), while the data layer now accepts them.

Quality

  • Duplicated definition (medium): the long +towgs84 VN-2000 definition is now copied four times (crs.rs and three presets). A shared const would stop the copies drifting apart. Crs::from_epsg could cover the cases that have EPSG codes (3405 and 3406 are already named in the dialog).
  • Two province tables (medium): the aliases in resolve_name_alias and the five buttons in dialogs.rs are separate copies of the province-to-lon_0 data. The UI list is a subset, so the two will drift. The alias list is also hard-coded inside lookup, and common words like hue or saigon now intercept every lookup call. It would be cleaner to keep one table next to PRESETS.
  • parse_preset closure (low): the find closure in parse_preset is a long chain of eq_ignore_ascii_case checks. An alias table such as &[("vn2000", &["vn-2000", …])] would be easier to read and extend.
  • Tests (low): the dialog test only covers vn2000 and hanoi. Nothing covers the UI province buttons or the Crs::parse fallthrough. The hostile_params_never_panic suite should also be run with +proj… junk.

AGENTS.md

  • Translations (low): new interface text is mostly wrapped in tl!. The crs_details descriptions and the Vietnamese province button labels are not. The province names may reasonably stay untranslated, and the neighbouring crs_details strings also use plain literals.
  • No other problems found: there are no unwrap/expect/panic calls in non-test code, and the new code looks wasm-safe. The new unwrap() calls are all inside tests. Please run cargo xtask ci before merging.

Code review

I read the diff and the surrounding code only. I did not build the PR or run its tests. The PR adds VN-2000 support in three places: Crs::parse accepts +proj strings and VN-2000 names, there are new projection presets and provincial aliases, and the Coordinate System dialog gets province buttons.

Bugs

  • crs.rs: Crs::parse("VIETNAM") maps to TM-3 with lon_0=105, which is only one of the national zones. Coordinates elsewhere in Vietnam come out silently wrong. (medium)
  • projection.rs: resolve_name_alias runs before every other lookup. It hard-codes 13 province meridians that I could not check, and it hijacks generic words like hue. A wrong entry gives the wrong projection without any warning. (medium)
  • crs.rs: +proj strings are accepted in Crs::parse with no visible length bound or validation, and the check is case-sensitive. I could not confirm that Crs::custom rejects hostile input. (low–medium)

Security

  • Nothing specific. The +proj input path is the only new place that takes untrusted text. See the validation concern above.

Performance

  • Nothing notable.

Quality

  • The towgs84 string is duplicated four times, in crs.rs and in three presets in projection.rs. It should be one shared constant.
  • The alias table repeats meridians across entries. The !aliased.eq_ignore_ascii_case(code) guard in lookup is dead code, because no alias maps to a key. (medium)
  • The province buttons are redundant: Hà Nội and Cần Thơ both set 105, and TP.HCM and Hải Phòng both set 105.75. The 105.0 default is hard-coded in the dialog instead of read from preset_value. (medium)

AGENTS.md

  • Several new user-visible strings are not wrapped in tl!. These are the province button labels, the new crs_details descriptions and the hint text. "Provinces:" is wrapped. (medium)
  • hostile_params_never_panic is not extended to cover the new +proj and name inputs. (low)

Code review

I read the diff and the surrounding lookup, parse_preset and dialog code. I did not build or run anything. Four inline comments are posted.

Bugs

  • Wrong or doubtful province meridians (medium). Nghệ An is mapped to 107.0° (Huế's meridian), but it lies near 104.5°. Other aliases (binhphuoc, tayninh, bariavungtau, dongnai) also look misassigned. A wrong meridian shifts coordinates by hundreds of metres with no error. Check each against QĐ 05/2007/QĐ-BTNMT, and drop any you can't source.
  • Aliases handled in lookup but not parse_preset (medium-high). Projection::code() keeps "hanoi" as typed. crs_details then shows the generic "A projected coordinate system." text, and project files store the alias. The UI works around this with its own resolved block.

Security

  • Nothing found. normalize_vietnamese is bounded and has no unwrap or index access. The recursive lookup call always passes a vn2000 +lon_0=… string that parse_preset matches, so it cannot loop.

Performance

  • Per-frame alias resolution (low). resolve_vn2000_alias re-normalises every province name on each call, and preset_fields calls it every frame. Precompute the normalised names.

Quality

  • Duplicated data (low). VN2000_UI_PROVINCES repeats data from VN2000_PROVINCES, so the two can drift. The buttons it defines also differ from the PR description (Huế and Đắk Lắk are there, Cần Thơ, Hải Phòng and Nha Trang are not).
  • Description mismatch (low). The description says Crs::parse now accepts raw +proj= strings and resolves VN-2000, VN2000 and VIETNAM. The diff only adds two test assertions to crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs. Either the code is missing or the description is out of date.
  • Thin tests (low). The dialog test checks labels only. It doesn't cover the province buttons, the alias path through crs_details, or hostile inputs such as "vn2000:".
  • Missing docs (nit). The new pub items lack doc comments.

AGENTS.md

  • Translatable text (medium). The province button labels ("{name} ({lon:.2}°)") and the new crs_details descriptions are not wrapped in tl!/i18n::fmt.
  • Never crash. The new code complies: no unwrap/expect/panic outside tests.

Implement the promised VN-2000 text and PROJ parsing.

Crs::parse("+proj=utm +zone=48 +ellps=WGS84") and Crs::parse("VN-2000") both reach this error. The added EPSG assertions do not cover either form. Add the raw-PROJ path through Crs::custom and resolve the supported VN-2000 names before the EPSG-only fallback. Add assertions for both forms.

Code review

I read the diff only. I didn't build the code or run the tests.

Bugs

  • Province table data (medium confidence, from memory): the central meridians in VN2000_PROVINCES look wrong in places (crates/map/src/projection.rs:80). Examples are Nghệ An, Phú Thọ, Cần Thơ, Bình Phước, Quảng Trị and Gia Lai. Unrelated provinces are also grouped under one hub's alias list, for example nghean under Huế. A wrong meridian gives coordinates that are off by kilometres, and nothing warns the user. Please check the table against QĐ 05/2007/QĐ-BTNMT and give each province its own entry.
  • Inconsistent resolution of "VN-2000" (low–medium): Crs::parse("VN-2000") returns EPSG:3405 (UTM 48N). The map projection lookup resolves vn2000 to TM-3 with lon_0=105 (crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs:200). The same name gives different systems depending on where it is entered.
  • +proj parsing (low):
    • The +proj prefix check is case-sensitive.
    • The string is not syntax-checked before Crs::custom, so please confirm custom validates it.
    • parse_preset still says "PROJ strings aren't taken", so the two paths disagree about PROJ strings.

Security

  • Nothing found. Crs::parse caps PROJ strings at 1024 bytes, and no new unwrap appears in non-test code.

Performance

  • resolve_vn2000_alias re-normalizes every province name on each call. This is minor, but it runs in the UI path on every frame via preset_fields.

Quality

  • lookup now calls resolve_vn2000_alias, and preset_fields in the UI calls it too. The two copies of the alias-resolution logic can drift apart.
  • normalize_vietnamese handles only precomposed characters. Decomposed input (NFD) keeps the base letters but drops the marks, which works for a/e/o, but đ and the ơ/ư forms may normalize inconsistently. Please add a test for that input.

AGENTS.md

  • The UI strings in the new crs_details entries and the province button labels are not wrapped in tl!. This is minor; check whether neighbouring entries do the same.
  • I found nothing else against the guidelines. I did not check cargo xtask ci (fmt, clippy, tests, layers) or the wasm build.

Code review

I read the full diff and checked the UI write-back path in preset_fields. I did not build the code or run any tests. Six inline comments are posted.

Bugs

  • Helmert rotation signs may be flipped (projection.rs VN2000_TOWGS84). As I remember the published parameters, the rotations are -0.00928836, 0.01975479, -0.00427372; the PR has the opposite signs. Please check against the EPSG/PROJ definition. Confidence: medium.
  • Đắk Nông lon_0 looks wrong. It is 108.5° here and I believe the official value is 107.5°. A wrong central meridian shifts every coordinate, so the whole 63-row table needs checking against the source. Confidence: medium.
  • Crs::parse("VN-2000") always returns EPSG:3405 (UTM 48N) (crs.rs). That is a guess, and it conflicts with the map side, where vn2000 means TM-3. Most of eastern Vietnam is in zone 49, so this can silently give wrong coordinates. Confidence: medium.
  • Alias resolution is broad. Short aliases (hn, hcm, vinh, hue) are matched before the EPSG/ESRI parsing, and the normalizer strips all punctuation, so inputs like h-n also resolve. Confidence: low.
  • The new +proj branch only checks length. It relies on Crs::custom to reject junk, and there is no hostile-input test. The upper-case test (+PROJ=…) only checks the label, not that the keys parse. Confidence: low-medium.

Security

  • None found. The 1024-byte limit on +proj input is sensible, and the &t[5..] slice is safe because the first five bytes are ASCII.

Performance

  • None found. The province lookup is a linear scan over 63 entries.

Quality

  • VN2000_UI_PROVINCES repeats names and meridians from VN2000_PROVINCES, and the names differ ("TP.HCM" vs "TP. Hồ Chí Minh"). Derive it from the main table instead. Confidence: medium.
  • The legal citations conflict: "QĐ 973/2001/QĐ-TTg" in one place and "Circular 973/2001/TT-TCĐC" in another.
  • The vn2000_towgs84! macro plus a separate const is more indirection than needed. A concat! of a private const would do.

AGENTS.md

  • The new crs_details text and the province button labels (built with format!) are not wrapped in tl! / i18n::fmt, so they stay untranslated. Confidence: medium.
  • Please run cargo xtask ci. I could not check it here.

Code review

I read the diff and the surrounding source. I could not run the tests or fetch the crs_definitions data, so nothing here is confirmed by a test run. Three inline comments are posted.

Bugs

  • +proj prefix check is loose (low–medium confidence). Crs::parse uses starts_with("+proj"), so +project… is rewritten to +proj… and only fails later in PROJ. Matching +proj= is tighter (crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs).
  • Bare province names are accepted in the dialog (medium confidence). typed_crs resolves bare names such as hue, vinh, hcm and sapa to a TM-3 meridian. The rest of the PR, its tests and the doc on resolve_vn2000_alias say bare names must not be accepted (crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs).
  • Two alias tables disagree (medium confidence). PRESET_ALIASES in rustgis-map and the string match in Crs::parse in rustgis-data accept different spellings. A name that works in the projection picker can fail where a CRS is parsed, and the reverse (crates/map/src/projection.rs).

Security

  • PROJ-string validation is a deny-list (low–medium confidence). validate_proj_string blocks a fixed set of keys (init, nadgrids, geoidgrids, grids, file, catalog) and any value containing .., / or \. It handles the cases tested, but hostile input could use a key it does not list. An allow-list of projection keys would be safer.
  • Unbounded custom-CRS table (low confidence). Every distinct accepted string, up to 1 KB, is registered in a process-wide table and never evicted. This matters only for long-running or scripted use.

Performance

  • Nothing significant. The alias lookups are linear scans over small tables.

Quality

  • Duplicated alias logic (medium confidence). See the alias-table comment above. A single shared normaliser would remove the drift.
  • Unrelated change (low confidence). crs_details in dialogs.rs is rewritten from tl!(kind) to per-literal tl!(…). It is reasonable, but it enlarges the diff. It should be called out in the PR description or split out.
  • Test fragility (low confidence). vn2000_vietnam_projections asserts that the preset strings equal epsg_proj4(3405 / 3406 / 5897) exactly. This depends on the crs_definitions data, which I could not check. Several tests also use .unwrap() and .expect(). That is allowed in test code, but the large monolithic tests make failures harder to localise.

AGENTS.md

  • Never crash: no unwrap, expect or panic paths in non-test code. t.get(5..) is used rather than slicing, and the input length is bounded.
  • i18n: new UI strings use tl!, and Vietnamese entries were added. The formatted label uses i18n::fmt. This is compliant.
  • wasm and layering: the #[macro_export] macro, the shared rustgis_data::vn2000_towgs84! and the use from rustgis-map respect the layering. Nothing in rustgis-data or rustgis-map pulls in egui.
  • Regression tests: tests were added for the new behaviour, but I did not see the hostile-parameter test (hostile_params_never_panic) updated for the new parse paths. Worth confirming it still covers them.

Code review

The PR adds VN-2000 support: UTM 48N and 49N, TM-3 (EPSG:5897), a 63-province central-meridian table, +proj string parsing, and dialog shortcuts. I read the diff and checked the surrounding source. I could not build or run anything, so the new tests were not run. The province meridians I spot-checked look right. Nothing here is likely to crash at runtime or break wasm.

Bugs

  • Dialog contradicts the "no bare province names" rule (crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs, typed_crs). Confidence: medium.
    • typed_crs turns bare names such as hue, vinh, sapa and hcm into vn2000tm3 +lon_0=….
    • resolve_vn2000_alias and vn2000_vietnam_projections say bare names must not hijack lookup and that the vn2000: prefix is required.
    • The "EPSG or ESRI code" box would silently switch to Transverse Mercator when a user types a city name.
    • The inline comment suggests keeping only the prefixed form. If the behaviour is intended, drop the "must NOT hijack" claim and its tests.

Security

  • The PROJ-string deny-list is incomplete (validate_proj_string, crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs). Confidence: medium.
    • Legacy +vgrids=<name>.gtx is not blocked, and it contains no / or ...
    • Other grid or file keys could get through the same way. An allow-list of known keys would be safer.
  • Unbounded growth of the custom CRS table. Confidence: low.
    • Every distinct accepted +proj… string (up to 1 KB each) is added to a global table that is never pruned.

Performance

  • Redundant allocations in is_bare_vn2000 (crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs). Confidence: low.
    • It allocates two strings per call.
    • Crs::parse then builds the same clean string again.

Quality

  • Brittle preset-equality test. Confidence: low.
    • The vn2000_vietnam_projections test requires each preset string to equal crs_definitions' output word for word. A crate upgrade that reorders or reformats those strings would fail it.
    • The vn2000_towgs84! macro is exported at the root of rustgis-data with #[doc(hidden)], which is a bit awkward.
  • Test-only panics. Confidence: low. Tests use expect and unwrap, which AGENTS.md allows in tests. I only note it.

AGENTS.md

  • No violations found. Confidence: medium.
    • The new UI strings are wrapped in tl!.
    • The Vietnamese catalog entry was added, which is optional.
    • Non-test code uses no unwrap or panic, and get() is used for slicing.
    • There is no hostile-params regression test for the new +proj parse path. hostile_params_never_panic may already cover it through the commands, but I did not confirm this.
    • The PR's dependency on rustgis-data from map already exists in crates/map/Cargo.toml.

…ialog

- rustgis-data's vn2000_epsg() is now the one table of VN-2000 system
names. Crs::parse and the map's presets both use it, so a name one
  takes (vn2000_utm48, VN200048, VN-2000 / UTM zone 49) the other takes
too. A test checks the two agree.
- Crs::parse reads a PROJ string only when it starts with "+proj=",
not any text starting with "+proj" ("+project…").
- The Coordinate System dialog no longer reads a bare word such as
"hue" or "vinh" as a province. Like map.projection, it needs the
vn2000: prefix (vn2000:hanoi). The test checks bare names stay as
typed and the ambiguity message for a bare "vn2000".

Code review

I read the full diff and checked the surrounding code in crs.rs. I found no correctness bugs and no panics outside tests. I did not build or run the tests (no Bash tool). I did not check any section of the province table against EPSG, so its figures are as the PR states them. I did spot-check the central meridians (Hà Nội 105°, TP. Hồ Chí Minh 105.75°, Đà Nẵng 107.75°, Khánh Hòa 108.25°, Đắk Lắk 108.5°), and they look right.

Bugs

  • None found. Name matching is consistent between Crs::parse and the map presets, bare VN-2000 is rejected as ambiguous, and a province alias needs the vn2000: prefix.

Security

  • User-typed +proj strings use a denylist (low confidence). validate_proj_string blocks init, nadgrids, geoidgrids, grids, file and catalog, plus path characters in values. Keys that load resources by other routes, such as +proj=pipeline steps, are not covered. An allowlist of known keys would be safer.
  • Typed +proj strings can fill the CRS table (low-medium confidence). Every distinct valid string takes a slot in custom_table. That table is capped at MAX_CUSTOM and shared with CRSs read from files, so a loop of hostile parameters could make later file CRSs fail. Inline comment on crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs:250.

Performance

  • Nothing notable.

Quality

  • Duplicated normalisation (nit). is_bare_vn2000, vn2000_epsg and the VN2000 branch of Crs::parse each rebuild the same "alphanumerics, uppercased" string. A small shared helper would stop the matchers drifting apart. Inline comment on crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs:144.
  • Province data (low confidence, nits). The 63-province table sits in the projection module, and VN2000_UI_PROVINCES repeats six of its entries (a test keeps them in sync). A stray blank line was added in lookup. The preset test compares preset strings word for word with epsg_proj4, so it would break if the crs_definitions text for these codes changed. Inline comment on crates/map/src/projection.rs:374.

AGENTS.md

  • The PR follows the repository's rules: no unwrap/expect outside tests, the new interface strings use tl!/i18n::fmt, and only the Vietnamese catalogue was updated, which is optional.
  • rustgis_data and rustgis_map are both below L6, so layering holds.
  • I could not confirm that cargo xtask ci passed, since nothing could be run here.

Code review

I found no crashes or correctness bugs in the VN-2000 and PROJ-string changes. The points below are mostly low-confidence hardening and tidy-ups. I read the diff and spot-checked the related code. I did not build the crates or run any tests.

Bugs

  • None found. The VN-2000 name parsing, the preset and EPSG tables (which the tests assert agree), the province lookup and typed_crs are consistent with their tests. The new code has no unwrap or panic paths outside tests. (confidence: medium)

Security

  • validate_proj_string (crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs:57) uses a deny-list of keys. It misses other PROJ keys that can name files, such as xy_grids, z_grids and +model= (defmodel). Only /, \ and .. in values are filtered. This matters only if a backend resolves those names from the PROJ data directory. An allow-list, or rejecting any key containing grid, would be safer. (confidence: low–medium)
  • Every distinct user-typed +proj= string is added to the process-global custom_table, which never shrinks (crs.rs:89). Repeated unique strings from a script or command could grow it without bound. (confidence: low)

Performance

  • In parse_preset (crates/map/src/projection.rs:502), vn2000_epsg(head) allocates and normalises the string once per preset inside the find closure. Compute it once before the loop. (confidence: high, minor)

Quality

  • crs_details in dialogs.rs rewrites the existing preset description strings to tl!(…) literals. This is a sensible i18n fix, but it is unrelated to VN-2000 and widens the diff. (confidence: medium)
  • The new vi.tsv rows sit after View › Windows, but "Vietnam…" sorts before "View In Google Earth", so the file's alphabetical order is broken (vi.tsv:2945). (confidence: medium)
  • is_bare_vn2000 and vn2000_epsg each build the same normalised string separately. A shared normaliser would remove the duplication. (confidence: low)
  • The province table and its central meridians come from cited circulars. I could not verify them independently. The spot-checked hubs (Hà Nội, TP. Hồ Chí Minh, Huế, Đà Nẵng, Khánh Hòa, Đắk Lắk) match what I know of VN-2000. (confidence: low)

AGENTS.md

  • Translations: new UI strings are wrapped in tl! and i18n::fmt. Only vi.tsv was updated, which is allowed. The "{name} ({lon})" format string has no catalog entry and will show in English.
  • Wasm and layering: no std::time or egui use below L6. format_degrees is pub(crate) in the UI crate. No concerns.
  • Never crash: the new Crs::parse paths use get() and a length cap, and the tests include hostile and long inputs. Please still confirm hostile_params_never_panic passes on map.projection with the new inputs. (confidence: medium)

@giswqs Thanks for the updates and for rebasing with main!
All remaining code review findings have been addressed, verified, and pushed to the branch:

  • Province & CRS Name Unification: Kept strict vn2000:<province> parsing across both the dialog and commands, with unified name matching via rustgis_data::raster::crs::vn2000_epsg.
  • Ambiguous Aliases: Confirmed removal of the "vietnam" alias for TM-3 105°.
  • Hậu Giang Alias: Added "vithanh" (provincial capital Vị Thanh) alongside "vitri".
  • Project Persistence & Round-Trip: Added regression tests ensuring provincial VN-2000 TM-3 projections save to project JSON as canonical presets (vn2000tm3 +lon_0=...) and restore faithfully across project.openText.
  • Quality Gates: All checks pass cleanly (cargo fmt --check, clippy --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo xtask layers, and all test suites).
Ready for your final review and merge!

I've posted the inline comments and am writing the review summary now.

Code review

Overall: a solid, well-tested addition (VN-2000 CRS names, presets, province meridians, +proj parsing). I found no crashes or panics in non-test code. The concerns below are about hardening and tidiness. I read the diff only; I did not build or run the tests.

Bugs

  • None found. I spot-checked the province meridians against the published VN-2000 table and they look consistent. The NFD normalisation path also looks correct. (Confidence: medium. I could not run the tests.)

Security

  • crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs:172 — validate_proj_string is a blocklist (init, nadgrids, geoidgrids, grids, file, catalog). Other file-referencing keys, such as +xy_grids and +z_grids for +proj=deformation, are not covered. The path check only rejects values containing /, \ or .., so a bare filename passes. Crs::parse is now reachable from command parameters, which are untrusted input. Prefer an allowlist of keys, or reject any key containing grid. (Confidence: medium.)
  • Each distinct accepted +proj=… string takes a slot in the capped global custom-CRS table. Repeated parses of different strings can fill it and make later file loads fail with "too many coordinate systems". (Confidence: low.)

Performance

  • crates/map/src/projection.rs:209 — vn2000_epsg(head) allocates a String and is re-evaluated for every preset inside the find closure. Compute it once before the loop. (Confidence: high, minor.)

Quality

  • Crs::parse computes the alphanumeric-only uppercase form several times: in is_bare_vn2000, in vn2000_epsg, and again inline. A small shared helper would remove the duplication.
  • parse_preset, lookup and the dialog's typed_crs each handle VN-2000 and province aliases in slightly different ways. The tests cover the cases, but the logic is spread across three places.
  • Some of the tl! wrapping of the existing crs_details strings is unrelated churn (it replaces tl!(kind)). It is harmless, but it makes the diff larger.

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap, expect or panic! in non-test code, and slicing uses get(). (Pass.)
  • The new interface text is wrapped in tl! and i18n::fmt. (Pass.)
  • Adding vi.tsv entries is optional under the guidelines, and the i18n test covers them. (Pass.)
  • The new vn2000_towgs84! macro is exported from rustgis-data, and rustgis-map uses it without adding a layering violation. (Pass.)

I've buffered three inline comments and am now writing the final review summary.

Code review

This PR adds VN-2000 support: three presets (TM-3, UTM 48N, UTM 49N), a 63-province table of central meridians, and name parsing shared between Crs::parse and the map presets. It also lets Crs::parse accept typed +proj= strings, adds province shortcut buttons to the coordinate system dialog, and adds Vietnamese strings. I read the diff and the surrounding code but ran no tests or builds, as I had no way to run commands.

Bugs

  • No definite bugs found.
  • Unverifiable test assumption (~35%). vn2000_vietnam_projections asserts that each preset string equals epsg_proj4(5897 | 3405 | 3406) exactly. Those definitions come from the external crs_definitions data, which I couldn't see. If its strings differ in parameter order or in having +towgs84, the test fails. The comment on the PR's test says "word for word", so CI should settle it.
  • Typed-CRS cap isn't atomic (~50%, low severity). The MAX_TYPED check and the insert in Crs::custom take the lock separately, so concurrent callers can overshoot the cap slightly. MAX_CUSTOM still bounds the total. The count also keys on the label "Custom PROJ", so a file-defined CRS with that label uses up the typed budget. (Inline comment posted.)

Security

  • validate_proj_string looks sound for the new typed-string path.
    • It refuses any key containing grid, plus init, file, catalog and step.
    • It refuses +proj=pipeline in any case.
    • It rejects values with .., / or \.
    • It caps the input at 1024 bytes and limits the number of typed definitions.
    • t.get(..6) is boundary-safe, so there are no panics on non-ASCII input.
  • File-defined CRSs still go through Crs::custom unvalidated, so +nadgrids=@null keeps working, and a test covers it.
  • Residual risk (~25%): this is a deny-list, so a PROJ key added later that reads a file without "grid" in its name would pass. A small allow-list of keys would be stricter.

Performance

  • Nothing notable. The province lookup is a linear scan of 63 entries, and the typed-CRS cap check scans the custom table, bounded at 1024 entries.

Quality

  • validate_proj_string duplicates the GDAL check its doc comment refers to. One shared helper would stop the two deny lists drifting. (~60%; included in the posted comment.)
  • VN2000_UI_PROVINCES repeats the names and meridians already in VN2000_PROVINCES. A test keeps them in sync, but deriving the six hubs by id would be simpler. (Inline comment posted.)
  • The alias "daclac" for Đắk Lắk looks like a typo for "daclak". (Inline comment posted.)
  • normalize_vietnamese, resolve_vn2000_province and resolve_vn2000_alias are all pub, which widens the API for what are mostly helpers.
  • The dialogs.rs diff re-wraps many existing crs_details strings in tl!. That is right for translation, but it makes the change noisy and the PR harder to scan.
  • The Crs::parse error text changed to "…EPSG:, WKT, or +proj string". I found no tests or callers matching the old text.
  • The province table predates the 2025 province mergers. The PR says so in a doc comment, which is fine.

AGENTS.md

  • Never crash: the non-test code adds no unwrap, expect or panics. The expects are all in tests.
  • Hostile-input regression tests: the new parse paths have good rejection tests. The PR doesn't extend hostile_params_never_panic, but map.projection and Crs::parse are already covered by it.
  • Translations: new strings use tl! and i18n::fmt. The Vietnamese catalog entries look out of alphabetical order, since "Vietnam…" should sort before "View …". Translations weren't required, and the catalog format is in docs/i18n.md. (Inline comment posted, ~50%.)
  • Wasm: I saw nothing that breaks it. The new code is pure Rust and uses no std::time.
  • Layering: rustgis-map now depends on rustgis_data items (vn2000_towgs84!, raster::crs::*), which is allowed (L2 over L1).

… key check

- Crs::parse registers a typed PROJ string through Crs::register,
which checks MAX_TYPED under the same lock as the insertion, so
  concurrent callers can't overshoot it.
- proj_key_refused() is the one check for PROJ keys that read files or
build pipelines, used for typed definitions and for those handed to
GDAL's programs, whose list now refuses every grid key (vgrids,
  xy_grids...) and pipelines as well.

Code review

I read the full diff and the surrounding code but couldn't build or run tests, so none of this has been executed. The PR adds VN-2000 support (TM-3 with provincial central meridians, UTM 48N/49N) and lets Crs::parse take +proj= strings. It also adds a shared PROJ-key refusal check, which raster::gdal now uses too. The design is mostly sound, and I found no blocking problems.

Bugs

  • Typed-PROJ cap counts by label (crates/data/src/raster/crs.rs:237). The 256-entry cap counts entries whose label is "Custom PROJ". A file-supplied CRS with that label would count too, and the dedup branch can overwrite a typed entry with a file's definition. The cap is therefore approximate. Low severity. Confidence: low-medium.
  • Unverified test assertion. The new test vn2000_vietnam_projections asserts that each preset string equals epsg_proj4(5897 / 3405 / 3406) "word for word". I couldn't check the crs-definitions table offline. If its strings differ, even by parameter order, that test fails. Please confirm it passes in CI. Confidence: low.

Security

  • Nothing blocking. validate_proj_string and proj_key_refused refuse any key containing grid, plus init, file, catalog, step, proj=pipeline, and values containing .., / or \. This is stricter than before, and the gdal.rs check is now shared with it. Input length is capped at 1024 characters and the typed table at 256 entries, so hostile command parameters can't grow it without bound.

Performance

  • No concerns. The cap check is a linear scan, but only under the table lock on a miss, and the table is bounded.

Quality

  • Translation catalog order (crates/ui-egui/src/i18n/vi.tsv). The three "Vietnam national…" rows are inserted after "View Extent", but "Viet…" sorts before "View". "Provinces:" would also sort after "Provider". AGENTS.md says catalog entries aren't required in PRs. Confidence: low.
  • PR description is stale. It mentions a vn2000 preset and VIETNAM name resolution. The final code rejects bare vn2000 as ambiguous and has no vietnam alias. The description should say so.
  • Duplicated VN-2000 knowledge. The EPSG codes, the VN2000_PRESET_EPSG table and the vn2000_towgs84! macro are kept in sync by hand across rustgis-data and rustgis-map. The macro, the VN2000_TOWGS84 const and the doc comments add noise. The equality test partly guards this.
  • tl! changes in crs_details go beyond the feature. Wrapping the existing description strings in tl! is a good change, but it's unrelated to VN-2000. It also changes tl!(kind) to ui.label(kind).

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap or expect appears in non-test code. I did not find a panic path in the new parse/parse_preset code (it uses get, and the length is capped).
  • Interface strings are wrapped in tl! or i18n::fmt.
  • There are regression tests for the hostile-input paths (grid keys, pipelines, path traversal, over-long strings).
  • I couldn't confirm that hostile_params_never_panic still passes.
