Looks good. Can you create a new PR with just the CSS changes (without the new layer/colorbar)?

Added a demo PNG color bar (inside _core/styles/resources/img)
Created a specific layer (copy of existing one) named "Sea Surface Temperature (PNG colorbar)
Expanding the layer in Map Layers box will show that the colorbar shows up and overwrites the map buttons (opacity, position ...).
