Motivation & Context

Prepare the Python 1.22.0 package release from the 77 Python changes merged since python-1.21.0. This consolidates the complete release cohort, package-specific versions, dependency floors, changelog, release notes, and lockfile so the published distributions reflect the latest main branch.

Description & Review Guide

  • What are the major changes? Adds the 1.22.0 CHANGELOG section covering all 77 merged PRs and all 43 release distributions; moves Core and the root package to 1.22.0, AG-UI to 1.6.0, Declarative to 1.3.0, Foundry to 1.15.0, GitHub Copilot to 2.1.0, OpenAI to 1.17.0, and Orchestrations to 1.3.2; stamps all releasing alpha and beta packages with 261015; refreshes the core[all] release cohort; updates coordinated Core and internal-package dependency floors, including consistent Hosting adapter pins; refreshes uv.lock; and corrects the Python release guide's stable-tag selection and clean-environment validation command. The intentionally unpublished Lab package remains outside this release cohort.
  • What is the impact of these changes? Core and the root agent-framework package now support Python 3.15, but some packages, optional extras, and features remain constrained by upstream dependencies. The release notes direct users to each package README and the central Python 3.15 limitations summary before upgrading. Core minimums rise to 1.22.0 only for packages that require the coordinated content-identity contract from [BREAKING] Python: Consolidate content identity and protocol metadata #8886; other packages retain their existing compatible Core floors. The persisted-state compatibility boundary covers artifacts containing serialized Content or streamed response updates: chat/message histories, session stores and protocol snapshots that embed them, and workflow checkpoints only when their state contains those records. Plain session metadata and checkpoints without those records are unaffected. New 1.22 runtimes can read older records, but pre-1.22 runtimes cannot read newly persisted hosted or merge_mode, so rolling mixed-version deployments and downgrades against an affected shared store are unsupported.
  • What do you want reviewers to focus on? Confirm the CHANGELOG coverage and semver decisions, the Python 3.15 support and persisted-state compatibility warnings, the strict Core-floor updates, the aligned Hosting pins, the core[all] cohort bounds, and the generated root lockfile.

🟡 Changes recommended

Conflicting hosting dependency pins prevent adapter co-installation, and the full-release build excludes Lab from the stated release scope.

MAF Automated Review — Iteration 1

Result: Findings reported
Scope: full PR (1 commit(s)): 956800c7694d
Model: gpt-5.6-sol

Overview

The release metadata, coordinated dependency floors, core[all] cohort, and lockfiles are internally consistent, with release validators covering stale bounds and lock-independent lower/upper resolution. The residual risk is concentrated in Core's persisted content format: this PR publishes an intentionally incompatible writer as a SemVer-compatible minor release and does not carry the ADR's required mixed-version and downgrade warning into the release notes.

Reviewed the supplied pull-request change set across correctness, security/reliability, architecture, and failure behavior.
2 verified findings remained after source verification (1 high, 1 medium) across 2 files. Details are attached to the affected lines below.

Affected areas: python/CHANGELOG.md, python/packages/core/pyproject.toml

Comment thread python/packages/core/pyproject.toml
Comment thread python/CHANGELOG.md
Update all published Python packages because Python 3.15 metadata changed across the workspace. Apply minor bumps to stable packages with breaking or additive API work, patch Orchestrations, stamp alpha and beta packages with 261015, refresh the core[all] release cohort, raise Core floors only for packages that require the coordinated content-identity contract, and update release notes and lockfiles.
Align all Hosting adapters on the co-released Hosting version, remove the intentionally unpublished Lab package from the release cohort, document the mixed-version persisted-state constraint, and add the merged Message string fix to the changelog.
Document the annotated-assignment entity discovery fix merged in microsoft#9128 and bring the release scope to 77 merged Python pull requests.

The 1.22.0 release matrix otherwise reconciles across lifecycle versions, CHANGELOG coverage, internal floors, core[all], root pinning, Lab isolation, and the generated lockfile. One published-extra compatibility issue remains inline.

Comment thread python/packages/devui/pyproject.toml
Move the mixed-version warning to the top of the release notes and distinguish affected serialized histories, snapshots, sessions, and checkpoint state from unaffected plain metadata.
Allow DevUI development installs to resolve any compatible 1.x Orchestrations release, avoiding the stale RC1 exact pin and remaining compatible with the 1.22 release cohort.

Re-reviewed the two commits since my prior review. The DevUI published dev extra now accepts agent-framework-orchestrations==1.3.2 through >=1.0,<2.0, eliminating the conflict with the 1.22 core[all] cohort; the lock resolves Orchestrations 1.3.2. The updated persisted-state warning is clearer, and the complete release matrix still reconciles across 43 distributions, 77 CHANGELOG PRs, lifecycle versions, internal constraints, core[all], root pinning, Lab isolation, and lockfile versions.
