Preparing Your System

The installation process for Kryptonite will differ based on your system configuration. The section is therefore categorized according to user scenarios.

New Users

You are a new user if:

  • You have not used purge-wrangler on your system.
  • You do not use OpenCore already for other purposes (such as OCLP).

You are ready to install Kryptonite.

PurgeWrangler Users

The system needs to be cleaned up before using Kryptonite.

  1. Reinstall macOS without data loss: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904
  2. Reset NVRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Resetting NVRAM will enable System Integrity Protection. You are now ready to install Kryptonite.

Existing OpenCore Users

If you already use OpenCore, your setup process only requires you to inject the Lilu and Kryptonite kernel extension. Please keep in mind that if you use OCLP, it is possible for patches to conflict with eGPU support. Please see Compatibility for more information.

Existing Kryptonite Users

Follow the installation steps as in the Installation Guide. Make note of what to do for upgrades in Step 5. Otherwise, you can always manually update your OpenCore and Lilu versions.
