I'm Franck Nijhof, better known as Frenck. Open source isn't just my work, it's who I am, and I'm privileged to do it full-time. This makes GitHub basically my second home. 😅
I'm the Lead of Home Assistant at the Open Home Foundation: the open source home automation platform that puts local control and privacy first, running in millions of homes. In 2024, GitHub named it the largest open source project in the world by contributors. I see my role as its steward: guiding where it goes next, together with our team and a huge community of volunteer contributors.
I'm also a GitHub Star 🌟. Beyond code, I love speaking at events, visiting schools, showing up on podcasts, and helping newcomers find their way into open source.
I live in Enschede 📍 The Netherlands 🇳🇱 with the love of my life ❤️ and my two kids 👦 👧, always guided by my personal motto:
