From https://github.com/dotnet/aspnetcore-internal/issues/4249#issuecomment-1454106866, I believe this (dotnet/runtime#82836) is the origin of the issue.

Is there a deeper underlying bug here? Do we not support types that explicitly implement IParsable and ISpanParsable?

To resolve the current issue with the IParsable overloads for bool not being found in the source generator tests, I believe that we will have to update our SDK to a version that includes the runtime changes as well so the correct assembly references are loaded into the test app's context.

The SDK is 7 days behind the runtime at the moment so we may need to temporarily disable the bool test scenario and re-enable it once we can get the correct versions.

I was literally just updating the SDK with the latest from https://github.com/dotnet/installer#table. #47062.

But it doesn't appear to have the runtime changes in it.

Can we disable the tests for now to unblock the ingestion?

I think it should be fine as a stop gap, I think we should actually try to get the runtime to extend IParsable<T> with the following method:

public static bool TryParseExplicit<T>(string? s, IFormatProvider? provider, out T result) where T: IParsable<T>
{
  return T.TryParse(s, provider, out result!);
}

Just so people have a simple way of calling the explicit interface without having to write boilerplate like the above everywhere.

I think we should only fall to a ParsableHelper if we can't find an eligible public static method on the type. For example, for bool we will now be calling the IParsable explicitly implemented method (which takes an IFormatProvider, which is ignored) instead of the public TryParse method that just takes a string and out bool.

This is extra overhead/indirection that feels unnecessary.

Not strictly needed. We'd probably be fine code-genning something lighter like TryParseExplicit.

Also, I had forgotten that these Maestro PRs automerge once the build is green. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I'll have to address your feedback in a follow-up.
