At home I tweaked it a bit more and found some nice settings.

I created 4 examples which play with

number of iterations
using simplification (reducing complex curves to straight lines)
number of iterations that use simplification

I think option B and D pretty much achieve what you wanted to achieve

You can also play further with:

enabling/disabling convexHull
size of Gausian blur kernel
size of morphology kernel
