Compatibility Report
- Name of the game with compatibility issues: WARDOGS
- Steam AppID of the game: 1867240
System Information
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (GP106)
- Video driver version: nvidia 580.178.04
- Kernel version: 7.0.0-31-generic (Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon)
- Link to full system information report as Gist
- Proton version: Proton Experimental (experimental-11.0-20260910b-x86_64), Steam default — not manually forced
I confirm:
Symptoms
The WARDOGS launcher fails with a dialog reading
Unable to launch WARDOGS. Error code: WD-L010-<session id>.
The Elytra Anti-Cheat Framework 0.0.3 installer itself completes cleanly —
the WiX bundle log ends with Apply complete, result: 0x0 and
Exit code: 0x0 — and C:\Program Files\Elytra\service.exe is loaded and
starts its Tokio runtime threads successfully.
The failure occurs when the Elytra service verifies the Authenticode
signature of its downloaded module CAB:
fixme:cryptasn:CryptDecodeObjectEx Unsupported decoder for lpszStructType 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.2.1.4
fixme:cryptasn:CryptDecodeObjectEx Unsupported decoder for lpszStructType 1.3.6.1.4.1.311.2.1.4
fixme:wintrust:SOFTPUB_VerifyImageHash Cannot verify hash for pszObjId="1.3.6.1.4.1.311.2.1.25"
The OIDs involved are:
1.3.6.1.4.1.311.2.1.4 — SPC_INDIRECT_DATA
1.3.6.1.4.1.311.2.1.25 — SPC_CAB_DATA (Authenticode signature of a CAB file)
Roughly 0.8 s later a dialog window appears
(fixme:oleacc:find_class_data unhandled window class: L"#32770"),
which is the launcher error box shown above.
The full log contains only two err: lines, both unrelated to the game:
ZwLoadDriver failed to create driver L"\Registry\Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\winebth"
and get_container_id_for_usb_udev_device Failed to get parent device.
No kernel driver load is attempted by Elytra in this session.
A possibly related but non-fatal message during the download step:
fixme:secur32:get_cipher_algid unknown algorithm 23 /
get_mac_algid unknown algorithm 200, cipher 23.
Relation to #10113: that report describes the same anti-cheat failing at
InstallModule because the module CAB could not be opened through a
\\?\Volume{GUID}\ path (CreateFileW → c0000034), on AppID 4809930
(playtest build). Here the CAB opens fine but cannot be verified, on
AppID 1867240 (retail Early Access build). Same symptom, different cause.
Expected result: wintrust should support Authenticode signature
verification of CAB files (SPC_CAB_DATA), allowing Elytra to validate and
install its anti-cheat module.
Reproduction
- Install WARDOGS (Steam AppID 1867240) on Linux.
- Add
PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the launch options.
- Launch the game and let the Elytra Anti-Cheat Framework install
(it completes without error).
- The launcher then shows
Unable to launch WARDOGS. Error code: WD-L010-....
- Inspect
$HOME/steam-1867240.log for the wintrust:SOFTPUB_VerifyImageHash
line quoted above.
Note: the game itself runs under Proton when the launcher is bypassed —
tutorial and firing range are playable, multiplayer disconnects after
roughly a minute with a heartbeat error, consistent with the anti-cheat
module never having been installed.
