TrackerControl blocks login.microsoftonline.com, login.live.com, and related Microsoft/Outlook email domains by default when domain-based blocking is enabled, breaking email retrieval in Thunderbird.

Changes

  • Added "necessary": true flag to Microsoft entry in xray-blacklist.json
  • Gmail entry already had this flag; Microsoft entry was missing it

Technical Context

Domains marked necessary: true are categorized as "Content" (NECESSARY_CATEGORY) and automatically unblocked when strict blocking is disabled (default). This ensures essential services remain functional while still allowing selective blocking of actual tracking domains.

The Microsoft entry includes: live.com, microsoft.com, microsoftonline.com, live.net, and related subdomains used for authentication and email services.

Describe the bug

TrackerControl by default blocks internet traffic to some email providers, which causes Thunderbird for Android (previously known as K9-Mail) to run into email retrieval issues. It is unable to retrieve any emails from the servers.

The following domains are blocked by default:

  • imap.gmail.com (GMail)
  • login.microsoftonline.com (Outlook)
  • login.live.com (Outlook)

I have domain-based blocking enabled, not sure if this is related.</issue_description>
