Short Bio / Background

I’m a pre-final year B.Tech student in Mechanical and Automation Engineering at IGDTUW, New Delhi, with a CGPA of 8.98/10. I secured Rank 2 in my department in the last semester. I’ve interned with Tata Truenorth Automobiles and IGDTUW’s Centre of Excellence, where I developed AI/ML-based solutions such as predictive maintenance dashboards and a real-time facial recognition attendance system using Python, OpenCV, and Streamlit. I actively contribute to open-source projects and enjoy working on optimization and automation challenges.

Description of the Project I'm Interested In

I am applying for the CUTEst.jl small grant project, which focuses on modernizing the CUTEst nonlinear optimization test suite for integration with Julia’s Optimization.jl interface and the SciML benchmarking tools.

My planned contributions include:

  • Updating and wrapping CUTEst’s NLPModels format to be compatible with Optimization.jl
  • Implementing benchmarking scripts using the SciMLBenchmarks framework
  • Running Optimization.jl solvers over the benchmark suite and generating performance summary statistics
  • Ensuring proper code structure, documentation, and adherence to SciML’s contribution guidelines

This project will improve Optimization.jl’s benchmarking ecosystem and help the community evaluate and compare solvers across standard optimization problems more effectively.

Checklist

  • Appropriate tests were added
  • Any code changes were done in a way that does not break public API
  • All documentation related to code changes were updated
  • The new code follows the
    contributor guidelines, including the
    SciML Style Guide and
    COLPRAC
  • Any new documentation only uses public API

Additional Context

I will stay in regular contact with the reviewers (Chris Rackauckas and Vaibhav Dixit) via Zulip’s #sciml-bridged channel and share weekly progress updates. If more time is needed, I will submit a follow-up PR requesting an extension. I’m excited to contribute to the SciML ecosystem through this grant.

I think it's time to try Raunak here. @arnavk23 's PR changed 132 files when it was supposed to change 8, had clear issues (99% sure it's vibe coded and not checked for correctness). I manually rebased it SciML/SciMLBenchmarks.jl#1323 and fixed the testing infrastructure, and I see exactly the same stalls that the original PR was documented with SciML/SciMLBenchmarks.jl#1036. So this is not complete but I don't think it makes sense to continue with @arnavk23 because it's taking a lot of time from reviewers while SciML/SciMLBenchmarks.jl#1283 shows a history of not doing due-diligence to test on their part if the code works. Sorry but I don't think we can continue in that path in a way that is productive to all of those involved.

So with the original claim over the 1 month period, I approve giving @Raunak-2323 a shot and thus approve this PR.

Needs 2 other approvals.
