template-layer

This repository is a simple minimal layer for the spacemacs configuration of emacs to build up from. This started simply because except the documentation and the existing layers which you could simply copy and strip down there was no minimalistic working layer to build up from.

What does it contain

Everything a simple layer, with a example function needs to have:

layers.el

This file loads up the function file and provides the layer with the wanted name

funcs.el

This file contains a simple function which when loaded later on will print “Hello world” into your message buffer. Here is also where you can start to put your own functions into.

packages.el

A nearly empty packages.el which declares what package dependencys your layer has. Since this template does not have any dependencys this file only contain a needed stub declaration.

link.sh

A simple bash script which will set up a link from the cloned folder to the folder where the layers should be located. It uses the standard folder for private layers in spacemacs, if you installed it yourselfe differently you need to adjust the variable in it accordingly to your system.

How to install

The only way at the moment is to clone the repository to either:

a. Clone the repository into your private layer folder, for example:

~/.emacs.d/private

b. Clone the repository into a folder of your likeing:

  • clone into your folder :
    ~/your/sample/path

  • link the folder to your eamacs private folder:
    ln -s /home/you/your/sample/path/template-layer ~/.emacs.d/private/template-layer

or use the provided link.sh which will do the same for your

    bash link.sh

From there on you simply have to add the layer to your spacemacs configuration:

dotspacemacs-configuration-layers
'(
  ...
  template-layer
  ...
)
