Summary of Changes

Hello @futsuuu, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request updates the type annotations for the encode and decode methods within the string.buffer module. The primary goal is to accurately reflect the functions' capability to handle a wider variety of Lua data types, including nil, boolean, lightuserdata, and FFI types, beyond just tables, strings, and numbers. This change enhances code clarity and improves type-checking accuracy for developers utilizing these serialization utilities.

Highlights

  • Annotation Update for string.buffer functions: The @param and @return annotations for buffer.encode, buffer.decode, buf:encode, and buf:decode functions have been updated from string.buffer.data to any. This change reflects the broader range of Lua types (nil, boolean, lightuserdata, FFI types) that these serialization/deserialization functions can now handle, as stated in the PR description.

Code Review

This pull request correctly updates the type annotations for buf:encode, buf:decode, buffer.encode, and buffer.decode to use any. This change accurately reflects that these functions can handle a wider range of Lua types beyond string, number, and table. The update is consistent across all related functions and improves the overall correctness of the type metadata.
