I understand that the README of the docs refers directly to the "root/repo" README and consequently the changes made on the repo README will be reflected in the documentation website, is that correct?

I guess you had it in mind but we should modify the NEWS.md file and the pyproject.toml before the release

Ah no, I forgot to fill the NEWS.md, but there is no need to update pyproject.toml anymore, it automatically gets the version from __init__.py.
