We prefer software that remains useful to ordinary people regardless of their income or access to corporate resources.

Our preferred licence is the European Union Public Licence (EUPL) 1.2.

The EUPL provides a strong European legal foundation for software freedom while supporting compatibility with other open-source licences.

Privacy is an important part of software freedom.

We favour:

• Self-hostable services
• Minimal unnecessary data collection
• Open and auditable infrastructure
• Strong encryption where appropriate
• User control over personal data
• Resistance to unnecessary surveillance and tracking

We also believe technological independence matters. Critical infrastructure should not depend upon a single company, platform, or jurisdiction wherever practical alternatives can be developed.
