Same here on Android 7.1.1 (LineageOS 14.1) GS3
I feel like Boardwalk is unable to get the required permissions to access storage or something like that ("-1"). This issue is common on most apps which are not yet updated for the new Android 7.1 API.

Give it time; Boardwalk doesn't yet support Android 7. I'm on an LG G5 myself and it worked fine on 6, flash back if you still really want to use it

Same I use xperia x dual on root (I dont wanna void warranty) I think it caused by java lib in rom or something with api or base java jvm support

@CrepTiN it has nothing to do with built in Java or anything from the Android system. But it has something to do with API used in this app. Boardwalk is not yet compiled to support Android 7.x's new Storage Access Framework.

For all waiting for an update, the app hasnt been updated in a while. The developer hasn't looked at the code since 2018 (see here)
If he does ever get it working, he's going to make sure everyone can build it
