Shadow frame when recording

I've started seeing this "shadow" frame when recording - always sits in the top left corner. I click on the Kap icon in toolbar to start a recording and this frame appears. It remains on the screen while I record, making Kap unusable. I've not had this issue with any other app.
Mac is attached to secondary screen but I have been working on the same set-up for over two years.
