Code excerpts losing format

Expected vs Observed

I have a draft blog post which contains some Python excerpts wrapped in [code]. when I initially write it with the Android app. it looks good, but when I re-open the draft later it removes all prefixed whitespaces.

Reproduced

1. Add the code
   

2. Preview, looks good
   

3. Edit post again and the formatting is gone:

Note: these are hybrid editor screenshots, but the same issue happens with Aztec.

The reason for this is that the [code] shortcode is not supported yet.
