We are interested in paying for work - if we can get a quote & invoice:

We want to be able to copy blocks (grouped repeater content) from one language to another so we don't have to rebuild the blocks manually. I'm not using wn-blocks-plugin - because it didn't exist yet - and I don't know if it even has that feature, and I cannot do the switch because the website is too big with too much content.

For example, I have these blocks in Dutch:

And I want to copy them somehow to French (for example with a button next to the language button):

That way we don't have to manually rebuild the structure of the blog, but only translate the contents which will be a huge time saver.
Example of a blog page: https://www.maatkastenonline.be/en/our-closets/bespoke-wardrobe

@AIC-BV here are some ideas from ChatGPT on improving the UX, I'm intrigued by some and not interested in others; but I'm curious what your thoughts are? Also interested to hear from @mjauvin

1. "Copy Language" Button

Image
  • Add a "Copy Language" button or icon next to the language switcher dropdown.
  • Clicking this button would clone the current content (and structure, in the case of repeaters) into the target language.
  • Example Flow:
    • Select the target language.
    • Click the "Copy Language" button.
    • Content and structure from the original language are duplicated into the target language for easy editing.

2. Bulk Translation Tool

Image
  • Provide a Bulk Translation Modal accessible from the form header or the language switcher dropdown.
  • The modal can have:
    • A source language selector.
    • A list of repeatable blocks or fields with a checkbox for users to choose which parts to copy over.
    • An option to overwrite or append content to the target language.
    • Optional Integration with Machine Translation
      • Integrate with services like Google Translate or DeepL:
      • Add an option to pre-fill the target language with a machine-translated version of the content.
      • This would reduce manual work while still allowing users to refine translations.

3. Inline Content Duplication

Image
  • When in edit mode for a specific language:
    • Each repeater or field could have a small "Duplicate from [source language]" button next to it.
    • This allows users to selectively duplicate content on a field-by-field basis.

4. Visual Comparison Mode

Image
  • Add a side-by-side translation view for complex repeaters or structured pages.
  • Example:
    • The left side shows the source language content.
    • The right side shows the editable target language content.
    • Users can copy content directly from one side to the other using drag-and-drop or "copy" buttons.

5. Highlight Differences

Image

In the backend editor, highlight untranslated or missing fields for the target language in red or another noticeable color.
This helps users focus on areas that need translation and ensures nothing is missed.

In my opinion, each one of them brings an improvement to the UX.

  1. Copy language button: Copying an entire article from language A to language B looks very handy because you can translate it straight away without having to constantly swap between languages to see/copy the structure/contents

  2. Bulk Translation Tool: In a world where AI is becoming the default and where translators are becoming very accurate, I have no doubt that this is a very good addition. Personally, we already use Deepl/ChatGPT/Google Translate. This will be a huge timesaver for anyone offering ML content, or to convince people to offer ML content because you can do this automatically.

  3. The most basic but good enough for me. This is a simpler version of the "copy language button". This allows to be able to copy my repeater from language A to language B, then manually translate it. This also offers the most control and less accidental overwrites? Perhaps both 1 and 3 work nicely together.

  4. Handy, nice to have

@AIC-BV I'll take a stab at 3 this Wednesday during the weekly office hours and then let you know if it'll require sponsored work to finish it off
