We used to only show the first frame in an animated gif for this very reason, the amount of processing was way too much to do anything other than that. |

A workaround, could be completely disabling gif upload, and instruct editors to convert their gifs to videos instead? |

For sustainability and performance purposes it would be good to restrict file upload size by file type.
In addition it would be good on uploading of gifs to restrict the number of frames in a gif that could be uploaded, this is due to how frames are handled in image cropper. In that all frames in an image are extracted before the image is resized.
