Excessive spacing between app-menu groups #2

There is quite a bit of spacing between groups of items in the app-menu. The enclosed picture below shows how the items near the top of the menu are quite far apart, but the items near the bottom are closer together. The desired behaviour is for them all to be closer together, with a little bit more spacing between grouped items.

All of the shell themes I've tried have this behaviour. It may be a hardcoded thing in GNOME-Shell that you can't change with a theme...
