Add logging for exceptions

Would it be ok to add a logging statement here to log any exceptions?
It would allow users to opt into to other workflow based off logging (e.g. error emails).
It is something that users can opt into with logging config.

Or perhaps the error could be re-thrown so that users can handle, at present we don't have a way to identify and handle errors (other than inspecting the db row).
