IMGATCH service can now be disabled ...
via the ENGAGE_IMGATCH_SERVICE
environment variable. Set it to false
to always process all images. This can be useful. Default behavior is to ignore previously processed files (true
).

Make imgult nicer!
This release is a big deal to me. I have long been trying to find a way to keep imgult
from overloading a computer when run on a huge number of images. Then I found out about a beautiful little utility called nice.
Like all the best tools, it is ANCIENT. It dates all the way back to Version 6 AT&T Unix, 1975. When imgult
wasn't even a glimmer in anyone's eye.
Anyways, I was finally able to run imgult
on my massive home folder (almost 300GB), without it freezing my fast comp.
Enjoy the best release of imgult
yet! But please, enjoy responsibly. 🍷

3.2.02: use built-ins for jpegtran path (way faster and more flexible)
3.2.01: no sense grepping if you aren't going to process
Way faster! Less annoying!
I've streamlined imgult
for this release. After months of using it daily, I have come to learn that knowing the size differences was not really important, and du
is SLOW! So I'm now making that part optional (SPACE_SAVING_CALC=on
). I also removed the OVERLOAD_PROTECTION_ENCABULATOR because it doesn't seem to work well. Any fast comp should be able to handle a lot of images anyway.
But I think one of the best parts is that imgult
will just run through and only give warnings for missing tools, instead of needing DEPENDENCY_CHECKER=on
run to ignore those requirements. That doesn't mean you shouldn't install all the tools, it just means that if you only need to process png
files, imgult
will work really well with only optipng
and pngquant
. Enjoy!
