Escape character in math equation which contains inline R code

Description

I want to include the output of inline code in math mode.
According to Quarto Docs: inline code, the inline code should be included as `{r} code`

Unfortunately the output includes an escape character.

Reproducible example (Quarto 1.7.32, Windows)

```{r}
mystring <- "1.234"
```

Inline code **with curly braces** inside inline math mode $`{r} mystring`$

Inline code **without curly braces** inside inline math mode $`r mystring`$

Output:

No, that's not a bug.
Use `{r} I(mystring)` in this case.
