I wish to use the name scio for a project that my company wish to opensource as soon as possible, but the name is taken by a zombie project named Scio.
The zombie project was active between 2011 and early 2012 only. Its latest release (v0.12.0), designed for python 2.7, dates back to April 10th, 2012.
The project has no download history, and the description reads "UNKNOWN".
While there is no official homepage (only a dead link http://bitbucket.org/leapfrogdevelopment/scio/overview) or contact address in the authors profiles, I did find an email address in the source code: [email protected].
I tried contacting the authors but got a Mail Delivery System error stating (in french, meaning delivery was not successful): "Échec de la remise pour ces destinataires ou groupes : [email protected]".
My project, under active development and following good CI and packaging practices, aims at providing the AI scientific research community with a easy-to-use tool to estimate the confidence in Neural Networks. It is called scio for Statistical Confidence from Internal Observations (because we "look inside" the Neural Networks to infer confidence).
In latin, "scio", means essentially "to know", "to decide", which is completely relevant as the confidence scores aim at identifying when Neural Networks actually know what they are talking about. As such, scio seems like a really perfect simple name for my project, and it would be disappointing to have it reserved by an actual zombie project.
Maintenance or replacement?
Replacement
Source code repositories URLs
I could not find an online repository associated with the zombie project.
Our tool scio will be open sourced once the name is secured on PyPI because it would be counterproductive to communicate around its release just to have the name changed afterwards. Once released however, it will be hosted at https://github.com/ThalesGroup/scio.
Contact and additional research
I have tried contacting the authors thanks to an email address found in the source code, to no avail (see below). Furthermore, there does not seem to be any active reference to "leapfrogdevelopment" online, despite exhaustive research.
