Will look into doing jsdoc and typings at some point - this issue may be separable into two.

Would appreciate some assistance if anyone is happy to contribute.

Take a look at #2 and make sure you don't get an early start documenting things that may change based on that.

Attempting to re-write this in TypeScript and have already found a few existing bugs while doing so. Struggling a bit with some advanced / complex type stuff, but I'll get there.
