I've just released version 2.000 of Junicode. This release, which has been in the works for more than three years, finally brings more than a quarter-century of Junicode development to a place where all styles have the same character sets and the same features (except swashes and other variations suitable only for the italic faces). The font continues to track development of the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative, but it provides a wealth of features that allow users to access MUFI characters in accessible ways, bypassing the problems caused by use of the Unicode Private Use Area.
The release archive contains both static and variable versions, and also a WOFF2 version of the variable font for use on the web. These are all TrueType fonts. A CFF (.otf) version of Junicode is available in the repository, but is not included in the release because of problems with some versions of Microsoft Word.
One more known issue: The variable version of Junicode can cause Adobe InDesign to crash. This issue is under investigation, but a good workaround is to use the “Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer” for all InDesign documents using Junicode.
I would like to thank those who have contributed to this project either directly (via Pull Requests) or by opening issues. Your contributions are all visible in the repository, but my profound gratitude is much more difficult to record.
