Moving development behind $2 sponsorship

Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share some changes to my development flow, and a new sponsorship tier, to improve the sustainability of my open source work.

I'm moving the development of my projects behind a $2/month sponsorship.

This doesn't mean my projects are no longer open source. For all my repos, the master branch (latest stable), Issues (bug reports and feature requests), and contributor PRs will remain public. But development branches, sponsor PRs, Discussions, and early releases will become sponsors only.

The Discussions tab in this repository will be closed in a week or two.

Why the change?

Initially designed to improve my own developer experience, my projects have since grown to serve a wider audience. While I’m thankful for their growth, their popularity brings many bug reports, feature requests, and queries, often outside of my own needs.

I have always loved helping others, but it becomes tough to balance when combined with my other responsibilities. Coding and supporting users through Issues and Discussions are rewarding but time-consuming. Moreover, growing the projects, marketing, covering operational costs like domains and servers, and sponsoring upstream dependencies require financial resources.

This new sponsorship tier allows happy users to financially support the projects and also be deliberate about participating in the development community.

What do sponsors get?

As a sponsor, you'll receive an invitation to join my private GitHub organization, @pvtnbr. This exclusive org hosts the development repos to all my public repositories.

In these repositories, you'll have access to:

Development code

View the source code for in-development features, giving you insight into the latest advancements before they go public.

Early releases

Get early access to try out new features and updates through a sponsor-only npm registry.

Active discussions

Engage in discussions where you can ask questions, seek help, propose new ideas, and influence the direction of the project.

Private-only repos

Gain access to exclusive content such as my personal website code, WIP projects, detailed investigations and research data.

Why $2/month?

This $2/month price is designed to be low enough to encourage as many participants as possible, making it affordable for individuals to support my projects without financial strain.

While I am committed to OSS, which thrives on collaboration and innovation rather than financial concerns, it’s become essential to find a way to sustain my efforts.

This tier will allow me to focus more on what I love while relying on the community's support. With enough sponsors, I hope to dedicate more time to enhancing the projects and providing direct support to those who help sustain them.

Are there other ways to support?

Absolutely! The $2/month sets the baseline tier, but feel free to choose higher tiers.
I currently don't have any specific incentives, but I'd be happy to discuss them if there's anything you'd like.
In addition to the sponsorship tiers, I'm also offering:

• Priority Help: $50 for priority support on an Issue
• Enterprise Sponsorship: Banner placements across all projects, starting at $150/month (contact me!)
