For some reason, I am unable to install this in my ubuntu system. I keep getting numerous errors. for instance, cd xz && phpize && ./configure && make && sudo make install gives a number of errors. This is how my installation looks: -

sudo phpize

You need to install liblzma-dev package first. You can do that by apt-get install liblzma-dev on debian based systems.
