OMF site web interfaceissues pertaining to web interface and usabilityissues pertaining to web interface and usability
Description
- Background. Make top color match blue on openmodelingfoundation.org. Make the bottom color white, like the OMF web site.Make this text a bit bigger "Enabling next generation modeling of human and natural systems"Need to clean up stuff at the very bottom.
- Add an "About" section like Standards and Organization & Governance. The about button/link should go to an about page. Can start out blank, but we'll need some text eventually (migrating from WordPress site).
- Get rid of the Contribute stuff. We don't want people doing a pull request from the splash page.
- Leave the Community in and maybe make a link to the community statement that Allen posted about.

Looks like the blue top has been fixed, but now the bottom aqua footer is burning my eyes 😄
Can we come up with a color palette that we can use consistently? Maybe @chyhuang can help out here? I've invited her to the repo.
chyhuang commentedon Apr 28, 2020
The colours that I've been using for the OMF Wordpress site are three different shades of blue and an orange for emphasis:
A light blue for background: #f5fafd
A medium blue for buttons: #03a9f4
A darker blue: #2b4db0
Orange: #ff9800
I think most of them were defaults that came with the theme though, so if we want to change the Github palette, I can also change the Wordpress site.

Thanks Christine.

can someone post the link the this statement?
cmbarton commentedon May 7, 2020
I think this is now linked in the contribute page
chrstngyn commentedon May 7, 2020
@cmbarton I think this issue is ready to be closed because these suggestions have been resolved by various commits

I think we need to keep this open. The big blank blue area is still something to be dealt with eventually.
chrstngyn commentedon May 7, 2020
we could add a stock image to fill up the blue title page space
cmbarton commentedon May 7, 2020
But why? Why separate the buttons from the explanatory text? Why does the blue part expand when I make my window bigger, moving the explanations even farther from the buttons. It should not be dynamically expandable IMHO.
chrstngyn commentedon May 7, 2020
@cmbarton In the current theme we're using, it configures the size of each section to match the size of the browser window. So when the browser size is adjusted to expand or condense, the theme tries to compensate for browser real estate that is lost or gained
I adjusted the size of the top section so it doesn't take up the the full browser window, and modified the arrangement of the subtitle and buttons. Is this closer to what you're looking for?
cmbarton commentedon May 7, 2020
Not really. May not be doable easily. It should expand horizontally but not vertically. Somehow it is configured so that the bottom stuff in white and grey never shows up in the window without scrolling, even though there it is all blank space.
chrstngyn commentedon May 7, 2020
We would have to create a custom page layout that is different from the pre-configured layouts from the Hugo theme. Creating custom page layouts are doable but will take time to implement. Looking into custom layouts now

OK. But not high priority before the workshop. Thanks. It looks pretty good as it is, just a bit clunky to read.
