@tilgovi wondered if you could shed light on relation of this repo and https://github.com/hypothesis/client -- was the client originally derived from here or completely separate? should we merge improvements from hypothesis client back here?

I think the Hypothes.is client started from Annotator, then vendored a fork. Then, we started the Annotator rewrite to try to get a better foundation upstream. At this point, I think they are entirely distinct and share little to nothing.

@tilgovi thanks for the feedback. To what extent is the hypothesis client a better open source base? And how easy is it to use standalone?

I'm not up to date on the working of the Hypothesis client. You'd have to get in touch with the folks working on it.
