Serialise accumulated instrument contents to metrics protocol buffer

I am working with v1.0.1 to export metrics from an instrumented library. I want to serialise metrics accumulated within the instruments of a Meter object to a protobuf frame.

Would I need to write a custom processor/exporter to do so, or can I use an existing processor/exporter? Is there an example that I may be able to use as reference?
