Subscriptions expired after a few days

Describe the bug
After a few days when I open the app, a red info is shown above the places that the subscriptions are expired. There is no warning/push notification/... before, I have to open the app to see it.
Unfortunately this makes the app kind of useless, because I don't open it regularly to check if the subscriptions are still ok.
I'm using Conversations as push service.

I left the app in this state for now. If I should check certain logs, please tell me.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Choose Conversations as push service
2. Add one or two places
3. Don't use the app for one week
4. Open the app again

Expected behavior
Subscriptions should not expire (at least not silently if this is not avoidable at all)

Device :

Thanks for creating the issue. I have to invest more there, but currently, the only way to automatically expire is if our server is not able to deliver a push notification with 15 retries with an exponential backoff. So your push notification server has to be unreachable for several hours. If you didn't delete the expired place, can you send me the subscription ID? So I can check the logs if there is anything unexpected. As the subscription has already expired, it is safe to share the ID. Do not share IDs of active subscriptions publicly. You see the subscription ID if you click in the "my places" view, on the icon to the left of the placename. A simple screenshot of the ID would be useful.

I've had the same issue with NextPush hosted by Hetzner several times. Only way seems to be deleting the place and search for it again.

We had a server issue yesterday evening. Some broken subscriptions had blocked the notification worker, and after fixing that issue, the notification worker began trying to catch up with a large number of queued notifications. We probably got blocked by some distributor, and we accidentally had a too-aggressive unsubscription policy, which unsubscribed a lot of subscriptions. So if your subscription expired yesterday evening, then this is clearly on us and should hopefully not happen again.

This seems to be fixed now, I get the notification from time to time that subscriptions were renewed.

I installed FOSS Warn some days before. I use NextPush with my own, home-served Nextcloud. There are subscriptions from DAVx5, Find my Device, Fennec, and now FOSS Warn. All apps work fine with NextPush, but FOSS Warn. After about one day FOSS Warn shows "Einige deiner Abonnements sind abgelaufen." (Some of your subscrptions are expired).

Other registered applications are DAVx5, Tusky, FMD and Fennec. All of them have no problems with the push server.

Since I cannot reopen the issue, I am creating a new one. The issue seems not to be solved. After observing this problem with NextPush, I tested with Sunup, which uses Mozilla's push server. Same problem. After a day FOSS warn showed the warning about expired subscription. Conclusion: My self-hosted NextPush server is not the root cause, there is a bug in FOSS warn.

Does the self-check succeed with your server? It could be possible that we are running into some rate limits of Nextcloud. To investigate more, I need your SubscriptionID and the URL of the server. (You can also send me this information non-publicly via E-Mail or Matrix.

Yes, the self-check is successful. With Nextcloud and with Sunup. With Sunup the subscription expires, too. So I do not think it is a problem of my server. This morning I changed from Sunup back to NextPush. I have two locations, subscription IDs are dcd4594b-e377-4198-aa17-xxxxxxxxxxxx and 5f1fcd3b-975b-4883-bc07-xxxxxxxxxxxx.

mh ok thanks. (Please note that sharing the subscription IDs publicly could allow others to unsubscribe for you. So please keep them private.)

Currently, I can not see anything unexpected; we do not have any flags for this server, and as the subscription is fresh, the error counter is 0. I will keep an eye on that to see what's going on there.
