Adding a progressive chess variant

Hello everyone,

I’m new here and wanted to say hi! 🙂

I’d like to contribute to the project by implementing a Progressive Chess variant. My idea is to first commit an operational version in a separate file (to avoid interfering with the existing variants). It will be fully playable and tested to ensure no bugs.

Once it is done and approved, my plan is to merge it into the same file as the other variants, so that it integrates cleanly with the current structure.

Would this workflow be acceptable for the project?

Hi, welcome!

For long-term maintainability, the bar for introducing new variants is very high. I think Progressive Chess is interesting, but not popular enough to qualify.

I totally understand your concern about maintainability for new variants. What I’ve already created is a general framework for multi-move variants Progressive Chess just happens to be one example. And it is all in one file.

The cool part is that this framework makes it easy to implement and maintain other multi-move variants too. In fact, I already have 2 main variants working smoothly with it (and 2 sub variants for each).

Would you be open to me showing the current implementation so you can see how it integrates? I think it might demonstrate the long-term maintainability benefits more clearly than words alone.
