Script as ALTER and Create Opening Blank Window with Synapse database

In version 1.31.0 and 1.31.1 when I try script as ALTER or CREATE a View it brings up a blank window.

Steps to reproduce

• Connect to a synapse database
• Go to Views folder
• Right click on a SQL view and select "Script As Alter" or "Script As Create"
• Blank window opens instead of the underlying SQL code

I rolled back to version 1.30.0 and it started working fine.

• Can you verify your extension version is 1.31?
• Does this happen for the "Select Top 1000" option as well?
• Does this happen on tables as well, or just views?

It looks like the problem might be related to a scripting error coming from the SQL Tools Service.

To help us investigate further, could you please do the following:

1. Open the Command Palette in VS Code (Ctrl+Shift+P or Cmd+Shift+P).
2. Run the command: > Developer: Open Extensions Log Folder.
3. This will open a file explorer window. Navigate to the folder named ms-mssql.mssql.
4. Open the sqltools.log file inside that folder.

Please check if there are any log entries containing the phrase scripting error progress event.

If you find such entries, copy the relevant section of the log and paste it here in the issue.
Be sure to redact any sensitive information, such as server names, IP addresses, or user credentials, before sharing.

Thanks for reporting this. I was able to reproduce the issue in version 1.31. It appears to be caused by some options not being set correctly within the extension.

The Create View scripting issue should be resolved with the changes in microsoft/vscode-mssql#19349, which will be included in the next release.

However, the ALTER script still seems to be broken.
@shueybubbles — I’m seeing the same error in both VS Code and SSMS. Do you happen to know what might be causing this? From the docs, it seems alter statements are supported by synapse https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/t-sql/statements/alter-view-transact-sql?view=sql-server-ver16
