Mute Notifications for Specific Chats

It would be very useful to have the ability to mute notifications for a specific chat. For example, suppress notifications from a public channel so that new messages do not interrupt the user, while still allowing notifications for private messages.

Use case / Benefit:

Avoid distractions from high-traffic public channels.

Maintain awareness of important private messages.

Improve usability and user control over notifications.

Proposed behavior:

Option to mute a specific chat or channel.

Notifications remain active for other chats.

Ability to toggle mute on/off easily.

I think this has to be a general feature of notification module. the UI is not controlling the sound, it comes from the notification module in the firmware.

Is it a "glaring issue" or just one that hasn't quite caught up to the new BaseUI functionality as 99 percent of previous use was through the phone app where you could mute channel and chat notifications and most node hardware didn't actually include the hardware to make a notification sound. And certainly the T1000E (without a screen and did have the buzzer) was always used with a phone.

That is true for most people, however I've always been using Meshtastic devices as standalone – HelTXT and Meshenger. T-Deck + UI was of course a big step forward...

Cheers I hadn't seen this issue here yet so I've been going off what was written here meshtastic/firmware#7943

I've added protobufs to facilitate this here.

This is still lacking the actual implementation (i.e. block invocation of baseui popups and ext notifications) but it does contain some setters / removers for managing these protobuf values via the AdminModule and Channels classes.

Gonna try do some more on this tomorow 🙂

Muting channels is merged.
Muting nodes is a little more complicated as we are running out of space on the user protobuf, making it difficult to extend a mute flag into NodeInfo. There is a PR for this that will remain in draft till I get the green light on some space clearing up.
