The xr-part of this package (which can, however, also be interpreted more suitably as "extract" 😉 ) is currently just an oversimplified wrapper to make_geocube. There certainly is room for improvement and any comments, opinions and contributions on this topic are more than welcome!

A good starting point for improvement is @MarkusZehner's contribution in the connect_by_mapping branch.
