Flickr API slowing down page loads #566

The Flickr API sometimes seems to be slow and delay loading of the Photonic gallery. We should just use built-in WP galleries instead.

Megan needs the active connection to Flickr as she often offloads the curation of the photos to the 3rd-party event team who do it all within their Flickr account. Lately Flickr hasn't been causing issues with performance so I will close this one for now.

This seems to be a problem again and we've had a few appdex alerts recently. Slow flickr requests are causing the uncached version of the site taking 10s or more to load. I've re-logged an issue with the plugin.

It turns out there is an option to get the gallery to load via an AJAX call on the front-end so that it doesn't delay the page load time. See the thread here. That said, I think there's nothing we need to do right now since this isn't affecting our public users. Let's keep an eye on it.
