If I create two nodes like below

And then delete a node and readd it

Ideally, there should be an insertChild method that allows some sort of order to the nodes.

This is by design of the current zIndex mechanism, you can set a zIndex if you don't want that.

And yes, a insert child at position API would be required to do this and introduces different handling of sorted and unsorted children which will break behavior from how it sorts today.
