Great news! 🎉 I've bought a lifetime license right away for $181.49 including tax. However I've entered the key first time asked, but it asks me on every start and says the license key has reached activations limit 🤔 ... Thankfully it runs unlicensed as well, that's a relief. |

If I reinstall my device or upgrade the OS version, for example, from Windows 10 to 11, will the license become invalid? |

Thanks for your effort and great work, @leokhoa Some comment on v7.0 after I tried out in my laptop:
/laragon/www/website1 Previously, I can access them using: but now they can no longer be accessed with index.php as default. I can only access them using: Anyhow, /laragon/www/index.php can still be accessed as default by URL http://localhost .
I already use GitHub Desktop to sync my codes with GitHub and across devices with fetches and commits at anytime when I reached a milestone. So I probably don't need Laragon to do auto backup that often as every hour.

@leokhoa what is the license cost? Can you share a link where explain the cost of license? |

Firstly let me state for the record that this is @leokhoa's software and he can do with it what he likes. If he wants to charge for it, that is his right (regardless of any contrary views from me or anyone else). That doesn't mean that personally I think it is something he should do - but personal opinions don't change that he has the right to do with it as he likes. That said, here is my analysis of the economics of the license changes and my personal opinions about these changes: IncomeIf @leokhoa Leo is going to make a living from this, he has to be looking to fully replace his current income and benefits as "Head of DevOps for a fast growing SaaS company" - and as someone who was a self employed IT person for 15 years I would think that he would have to make a minimum of 100k€ per year. The current price in Euros is $50 per year or $150 lifetime and LemonSqueezy take 5% so the net result in EUR at today's exchange rate is 45€ or 135€ - so Leo would have to have 2,250 subscribers or sell 740 lifetime licenses per year or a mixture of the two. According to Github, Laragon v6 had 1,506,339 downloads for the "wamp" installer and 12,213 downloads for the smaller portable executable in the 2 years since it was released (which was way way way more than I was expecting given the level of chatter in these discussions). Assuming that 10% of these converted into active installs, and only 10% of these convert to paid licenses, that would mean c. 15,180 paid licenses of one type or the other which is c. 7x more than needed to make the 100k€ per year. Obviously there are some huge assumptions about the proportions converting to paid licenses, and despite assuming that only 1% of downloads turn into paid licenses I am still sceptical that this is one or two orders of magnitude to high, but on this basis it looks very positive 🎆 🍾 🍰 👍 👑 and I wish Leo well with his life choice to rely on Laragon for his income. Value for MoneyLooking now at value for money, for any commercial development, I think the price point is very fair by comparison to the costs of paying someone to create and maintain the development environment or compared to the salary of the person using it. But personally, I am retired on a fixed income, and I am trying to create an open source package, and if I paid $150 for every piece of small software I needed I wouldn't be able to buy food. I also a string advocate of the open source movement, and generally prefer Open Source solutions, though I don't let that rule me if there are no open source alternatives. I suspect that many many hobbyists may have similar thoughts, and decide they are not going to pay this amount. That said, I thought I would take a look and see whether the new functionality would nevertheless justify the costs for me... What I expect vs what we got
But most of all...
In the words of Dragons' Den, "I'm out!" I am now going to evaluate the Laragonzo v6 build and FreeEnv and choose between them so I can get on with my project. |

Personally, I think this price is ridiculous. less than $150 I paid for a license for the entire Affinity product suite. |

I just read this and its very interesting. Thank you very much for your insights @Sophist-UK for providing valuable advise on a path forward. I can only hope that @leokhoa is listening. Most of my work is front end and as much as I do back-end stuff at times, I tend to run away from the technicalities, so finding laragon a few years back was some kind of miracle. I develop my front-end and publish it easy because laragon is easy to use and I can just present to my client a working solution, they deal with the deployment on their own hardware and the likes. Problem solved. I say, "if your environment is configured like laragon, the app will work", they take it from there. Depending on ones needs, the landscape changes and shifts. I havent used Laragon in any commercial work I have done and just use it to present working solutions, but it's still the first recommendation I tell anyone who want to have a "just working development environment" without headaches, especially for clients who want to use MySQL and other things. The thing though, as someone who never uses MySQL in most of my products, I develop and publish my commercial products using PocketBase now. A simple conversation is, why was SupaBase created? People were running away from a costly FireBase. There is always a cause and effect when prices get assigned to things, and threading carefully on that front is of paramount importance. People only pay for things they need. If peoples needs will be satisfied with Laragon V6 and less, why would they move to V7 and pay for it? They wont. If 10% of the current user base are professional Laragon users who want and need more and 90% are hobbyist, satisfying that 10% is very important and it should be value for money and nothing less. Then again, we dont know how many people in terms of volume we are talking about here. #My two cents |

Laragon now is not free? If realy not, but i will uninstall it. After years using this good tool, i will return to wamp or xampp; the final price for annual and/or lifetime are very expensive in the Brazil. |

Hi everyone, I've published a more detailed explanation about why I'm transitioning to a paid licensing model: here. The good news is that I've received a lot of support from the community, and what I've earned so far exceeds the combined total of annual sponsorships and donations. Please note that: I haven't even updated the paid version of Laragon on the official website (which has a lot of downloads) yet, and users can still access Laragon by simply closing the license popup. However, I find @Sophist-UK’s comments very insightful. I don't want to create division within the Laragon community, so I'd appreciate some time to work on an update that benefits everyone. Thank you for your understanding. |

After activation, I decided to create a DevDrive and installed on it after deleting the original installation. Unfortunately, I now have the message: This license key reached the activation limit. |

@leokhoa : How can I get a refund for my LTD buy? V7.0.1: License key still not working after 2 days. SSL issues. Don't need NGINX for my goals: it is automatcally started now and can't turn it off. I rather stick to version V6 as it works well on my pc. Best regards, |

It is sad to realize that such a good platform as Laragon, which wasn't well supported all past years, ended up like this with subscriptions for the same we previously had for free. Alright, I will find another tool to with with or back to Docker/VM. Thanks to Leo for the great easily extendable alternative for all those outdated tools we were working with before. Shame for the strict push to pay instead of some kind of donates to support. |

Windows Defender won't let me install, saying a virus or potentially unwanted software. Do I have to disable Defender temporarily? Thanks, Ron |

I'm completely fine with paying for Laragon, as I'm sure many others probably are as well. What is holding me up from purchasing a lifetime license right now is the device limit being 1 with an activation limit. I have both a laptop and a desktop. Considering that I would need to purchase a commercial license, I'm either needing to pay $100/year or $300 for the privilege of utilizing Laragon on two devices. I also do a lot of reinstalls of windows each year for various reasons. Requiring communication to ask for permission to activate Laragon on the same PC that I've been using it on already is too much to ask, especially at this price point. In all honesty, I use Laragon primarily because I am lazy and don't want to have to spin up docker or use WSL and install a lamp stack manually. I'd really like to remain lazy in this regard. But in order for me to do so, I personally need to see a license that allows two devices (desktop and laptop) and without an activation limit to avoid headaches. I would also ask that there is clear definition at the point of sale that is legally binding saying that the "perpetual (lifetime)" license is non-revocable, as there has already been companies revoking perpetual licenses just because the software was "outdated" and forcing the user to buy a new, more expensive, subscription-only license in the future. Purchasing a "perpetual" license should be a trust-less transaction so that I am not required to take someone's word for it being perpetual, but instead I am legally guaranteed that license to use the software, at least that version, indefinitely in the future. If these requests are not possible, then I wish you the best of luck with Laragon 7, though I am hopeful that this can be done so I can continue using and paying for a product that I have thoroughly enjoyed in the past. |
