It's definitely doable and I can see the benefits, but what exact usecase did you have in mind? I'm asking because we need to define how to interpret f-f-f. It should probably include gutter width too, but it might not be what people expect if they state that f is 100px and then f-f-f comes out as e.g. 330px.
Another thing to think about it what to do it f is the only thing in a row - where do we position it? What if container is larger than f's width? Smaller?
