When typing a commit message, the system spell checker which comes with Lion is seldom a good idea. You can disable this selectively by right clicking a text field, going to "Spelling and Grammar", and unchecking "Check spelling while typing". But the setting doesn't stay across sessions; it comes back after GitX(L) restarts.
