Feature Request: Regex Support for @Tag Filtering in JUnit 5

Currently, JUnit 5 supports filtering test execution based on exact tag names using @tag annotations. It might be helpful to support regex-based tag filters as well. This could be a great addition for teams that use systematic tagging like feature-login, feature-payment, etc., making it much easier to run groups of related tests without listing each tag manually.

You might be able to achieve your goals via simpler tag names combined with expressions.

Just wondering: has regex-based filtering for tag names ever been considered?
In some cases, the granularity of tags is valuable, and collapsing them into a single, simplified tag would mean losing some context that could also be used for filtering in another context.
Maybe this goes beyond JUnit’s intended scope, but I’m curious if this was ever considered or if there’s a workaround beyond tag expressions?
